Introduction: The personality of every human being evolves from infancy to old age beginning from the birth. Astrology unravels the pattern of such an evolution through the 12 bhavas of the horoscope. Starting from Lagna , various aspects of one’s life unfold in each of the twelve bhavas. Lagna signifies birth of the physical body and all its attributes like colour, stature, health, honour, etc . It is usually said that everything about a person is signified by Lagna. The second house not only signifies food, nourishment or the wealth that supports growth and sustenance of the body but also speech and family of the native. Although third bhava indicates physical prowess and courage ,etc connected to the bodily aspects, it also signifies one’s younger co-borns. The fourth being ‘sukha sthana’ connected to general happiness of the native, it also signifies the mother of the native and Gruha ,Vaahana soukya, and so on. The word ‘Bhava’ means many things depending on the contextual use. Its generally recognized connotations are feeling, emotion, innate property, the state of being, inclination or disposition of mind, quality of existence, etc . As such , in Astrology , it connotes the various states of being , rather the different portfolios of our life. In a horoscope, Lagna marks the commencement of one’s life and succeeding Bhavas sequentially signify all other aspects of life one by one as they unfold in one’s lifetime. Not only that. Each house possesses a link to all other houses in a particular area of life. Also, many new physical realms manifest in each of the succeeding houses based on the preceding ones. Details of different portfolios of life allocated to each bhava are available in almost all the classics on astrology. But, there are some differences in these allocations. Here, it is pertinent to point out that there is no information available in any extant literature on the subject to explain the rationale behind allotting a particular karakatwa to a particular bhava. However, it is generally observed that the allotment follows a natural pattern of interlink acceptable to our day-to-day pattern of living. Almost all these rulerships (except a few controversies) are time-tested , accepted and widely followed since thousands of years across the globe . This article of mine is an effort to understand and sort out one such exceptional controversy related to the bhavas ruled by our parents. The 12 Bhavas and our Relationships : As already hinted, there is a link between the various bhavas of a horoscope in each and every area of our life. The lagna bhava signifies the self. Second bhava signifies the family in which one is born and also the one he would acquire after growing of age. Third bhava governs one’s co-borns especially the younger ones and father-in –law ( being 9th to 7th ). The fourth rules mother .The fifth rules one’s siblings and paternal grandfather ( being 9th to 9th ). The sixth signifies one’s enemies and maternal uncle/aunt ( being 3rd to 4th ).The seventh rules one’s spouse and also all partners in business. The eighth rules the family of spouse. The ninth house signifies one’s father. The tenth signifies mother-in-law (being 4th to 7th ) and the husband of mother ( being 7th to 4th ). Eleventh signifies neighbours and elder co-borns The twelfth signifies paternal grand mother (being 4th to 9th ). Based on similar analogies, other left out relationships can also be deduced from the various houses of the horoscope. But, as already stated ,out of the above , there exists a basic controversy regarding the bhavas ruled by our parents. In Vedic Astrology, 4th house is ascribed to one’s mother in a vast majority of Astrological classics . But , so far as the house of father is concerned there is a wide variation. While some classics prefer 9th Bhava , some others prescribe 10th as the house of father. Even in western Astrology , there is a difference of opinion on the houses related to one’s parents. Astrological Classics and Bhavas related to parents : In all the widely followed Vedic Classics such as Brihat Parashara Hora, Brihat Jataka, Jataka Parijatha, Phaladeepika, Shambu Hora Prakasha, Uttara Kalamruta, Jatakabharanam, Hora Makarand, Bhavartha Ratnakara, Maansagari, etc 4th house is unanimously allocated to one’s Mother. To signify mother , the words like janani, Amba, ambu and Mathru have been used .In Saravali, the word ‘Bandhava’ has been used which is a common term for all relatives and in Daivagna Vallabha, both Janitri and Janaka are used for 4th house , meaning both parents relate to the same house. In Brihat Jataka, 4th house is called as ‘Bandhu’( meaning Relatives) and ‘Griha’(meaning house or residence). As regards the bhava signified by one’s father , there is no such commonality. Brihat Parashara Hora, Shambu Hora Prakasha, Jatakabharanam, Maansagari, Jatak alankara, etc assign 10th bhava to father (Janaka, Pithru). Phaladeepika, Uttara Kalamruta, Bhavartha Ratnakar, etc assign 9th Bhava to one’s father. Besides, almost all the Astrological classics available in vernacular languages of South India including the Nadi Texts in Tamil and a vast majority of modern day practitioners of the science even in North India, consider 9th Bhava as the house signified by one’s father. But, Jatak Parijata by Vaidhyanatha allots both 5th and 9th houses to father. A perusal of some of the famous works in western Astrology ( both by a few pioneers and modern authors ) reveals a complexity existing on the issue. The opinions of some authors is tabulated in the chart given for easy reference : Thus, in western Astrology , the following five different opinions are seen : 1.4th house rules mother and 10th house rules father. 2.4th house rules Father and 10th house rules Mother. 3.4th house rules one of the parents , 4.4th house rules one of the parents , usually the one who has least influence over the native and 10th house rules the other parent . 5.4th house rules both the parents. Here, it is significant to observe that 9th house is not considered at all either for father or mother in western Astrology. And in Vedic Astrology , 4th house is never considered exclusively for father although the house is assigned to both parents in a texts like Daivajna Vallabha ( uses the words ‘Janitri Janaka’), etc. The Bhava for Mother : 4th or 10th ? As could be seen from the facts stated above , there exists a good conformity in fixing the Bhava ruled by one’s Mother. Although there is some deviation, both the systems Vedic and Western, broadly agree in assigning 4th House to the Mother. The basis for assigning this lordship is again the rulership of planet Moon in the natural Zodiac. The planet Moon signifies Mother and it is the lord of Cancer, the 4th house of the natural Zodiac. The rulerships of planets are assigned based on their Geocentric placement in the cosmos and any discussion on its validity is beyond the scope of this article. Here, it should be noted that 4th house also signifies the living place and domestic environment. In all parts of the globe, undoubtedly it is the Mother who influences the child first and hence, mother signifies domesticity also, although in later years changes do occur depending on the individual tendencies of the child and its parents. As the allotment of 4th house to mother and its related considerations like domesticity, etc abide by the basic empirical rules adopted in Astrology, it is acceptable to us. But, the opinions listed at Sl. 2 to Sl. 5 above are at variance with the majority opinion which do merit a closer examination. The claim that 4th house rules father is not falling ‘in line’ with the general scheme of the empirical rules adopted in Astrology. That is, Sun ,the planet signifying father, is the ruler of 5th house in natural Zodiac and is not connected to 4th house. Hence, it is not acceptable. However, there is some substance in the claim that the 4th house rules the parent of the opposite sex as that of the native. But, it is always the mother who wields a special domestic influence on the child and the father in most cases “ has much to do with influencing the choice of profession or calling” More over, mother is the first family link to the child and through the mother only the child starts knowing the very world around it. Hence, 4th house ruling domesticity also should be the domain of Mother only. The contention that 4th house is ruled by both the parents seems apparently acceptable because of the other associated significations of the house such as Comforts (sukha ), Domesticity ( homeliness), etc over which both the parents are certainly influential. As Sri Dane Rudhyar writes: “The mother may dominate the home (4th house) , but the father may form the Psychological home: the soul ”(The Astrological Houses) .But, mother’s influence precedes that of the father in the present birth and hence, we must give extra credit to the mother. For the same reason, the other claim that 4th house rules the least influential parent is unacceptable . Besides, it is an irrefutable truth that both parents influence the child in its formative years in one way or the other and neither of them could be weighed less. As such, in my opinion, assigning 4th house to the mother is quite logical and convincing . Father: 5th , 9th or 10th Bhava ? Once the bhava ruled by mother is fixed as the 4th, 10th bhava being the 7th from 4th (mother’s husband ) naturally becomes the house of father. This logic followed by some scholars has an inherent flaw in it. Is it absolutely necessary that one’s mother’s husband should always be one’s father ? The answer is an obvious ‘no’. Hence, 10th house for father is unacceptable on this premise. There is another reason also adduced to assigning 10th house to father. In olden days sons invariably followed father’s profession . Those days, it used to be a family tradition of following a particular profession. But, in modern times , this is lo longer applicable. The availability of multiple avenues in modern society has changed the age-old tradition of many a family and sons treading in the footsteps of fathers is no longer universally applicable, although in some isolated families the old tradition is still continued. Thus, assigning 10th house to father in today’s world is unacceptable for it is not universal in its application. Now, let us examine the next option of 5th house as the bhava ruled by father. The planet Sun ruling the 5th house of the natural zodiac is taken as the Karaka for father and Pitrus and hence, some assign 5th house itself to father. But, 5th house proper is widely considered as the house of children by a vast majority of the practitioners of the Science . 5th house is also regarded as the house signifying one’s poorva punya. According to vedic lore, we get either good or bad children based on our poorva punya only . If punya is more, we get children worthy of the name and if our sins are more , we get such children who would make us suffer and reap our karmaphala through them. However, there surely exists a link between lagna as the self, 5th house as his child and 9th house ( being the 5th to 5th ) as his father . Possibly, due to this link only, the custom of naming children after the names of one’s parents / grand parents is still prevailing in our countryside. Hence, considering 5th house as the house of children is more apt. Then, the 9th house is the final option . Counting the 9th as the 1st, we find that the 5th therefrom indicates the native. Some persons advocate the 4th house and the 10th house for father. It is incorrect. Always take the 9th house for father”. This argument, in my opinion , is totally irrefutable and thoroughly convincing. Also, some of the other significations of 9th house such as Bhagya (luck), Dharma , etc are inter-connected to the role of one’s father and Pitrus. According to Hindu Shastras, our present birth in a particular family lineage is based on the karmic results that operated at the end moments of our previous life.. Some factors like our unfulfilled aspirations in that life , our eligibility to get them fulfilled in this life or otherwise , etc are said to create an ambient suitable for the same in the present life as a result of which we take birth to a particular parents . This , in other words , is called as luck or Bhagya. In fact, our very life is under the control of our prarabda. 9th house signifies the influence of this prarabda. Thus, 9th house is rightly called as ‘Dharma, Pithru, Bhagya sthana’. Conclusion : It is evident from the foregoing discussion that 4th house is the house of Mother and 9th house is the house of father. Although 5th and 10th houses do have some links to the parents in general, they cannot be considered for either father or mother . Both 5th and 10th houses have other stronger significations i.e., Putra and Karma Sthanas respectively.

Mythology about Nakshtras and Navamansa

Nakshatras : According to mythology Nakshatras are the daughters of Daksha Prajapati. They were 27 in number and were married to Moon. The list of Nakshatras is available in Taittiriya Samhita (A.V 19.7) and also in the Shatapatha Brahmana. Each Nakshatra has one of the navagrahas as Lord and is totally governed by them. The order for the first 9 nakshatras are Ketu, Shukra(Venus), Surya(Sun), Chandra(Moon), Mangala(Mars), Rahu, Guru(Jupiter), Shani(Saturn) and Budha(Mercury). This cycle gets repeated two more times to cover all the 27 nakshatras. Based on this the Vimsottari Dasa System has been built. In Vedic Astrology the Zodiac comprises 360 degrees. By making a 30 degree division we get the 12 Rasis. By making a 13 degree 20 minutes division we get the 27 Nakshatras. In fact the first division was by means of Nakshatras only for which we find references in Rig-Veda also. Moon takes 27 days and 7¾ hours to make one round of the fixed Zodiac. Based on this the division of 130 20’ was made. Now we get a shortfall of 7¾ hour in the lunar transit which was made up of an extra Nakshatra called Abhijit. For the purpose of some special charts like Sarvobhadra Chakra etc we consider 28 Nakshatras and for all other purposes we take only 27 Nakshatras. The span from 2760 40’ to 2800 54’ 13” that is to say the last pada of Uttarashada is known as Abhijit. Details about each Nakshatra like, Symbol, Gotra, Gana, Lord, Deity, Type, Yoni, Guna, Goal, Sex, Body Part, Caste etc. etc. can be seen in any Standard beginner’s book. In most of the Panchanga’s also these details are given. I am not going into the details of these in this article. In the Gola Shastra we find a further sub-division of this arc of 13 degrees 20 minutes into 4 parts of 3 degrees 20 minutes each. These are called padas that is legs or feet. Why this was done? The arc of 13 degrees 20 minutes were found to be insufficient for the ancient astrologers and get a better and specific characteristic features of ruler-ship of the stars the further sub-division was made. Thus each Rasi was allotted 9 padas each in the running order of the Nakshatra. Nakshatras and their nature have volumes and volumes of information and it is not possible to present here all of them. Like-wise Nakshatras have deep relationships with various divisional charts, especially the Navamsa called as D-9 chart and Nakshatramsa Chart called as D-27 chart. Navamsa : Bhagavat Gita says that the first symptom of fall in Dharma is when the women of the family become corrupt and thus get polluted. Dharma is denoted by the 9th house. Hence one ninth division is called Navamsa to stress the point that it is a Dharmamsa. That is why Navamsa gains importance while matching charts for marriage. This is the chart which gives out the inherent abilities of the native though in a hidden form. Rasi chart is existence at the physical level. Moon chart shows your mental abilities. Navamsa chart shows the soul’s development through previous lives which are going to bear fruit in the current life. The importance given to this chart by Parasara, Jaimini, Varahamihira, Kalyana Varma and many more astrologers including respected B.V.Raman point out that the strength of the planets are to be judged taking into account both Rasi and Navamsa chart together. How Navamsa chart is constructed? Each Rasi of 300 is divided into 9 equal parts. So each part will be 30 20’. For Fiery Rasis (Mesha, Simha, Dhanus) Navamsa starts from Mesha. For earthy signs (Vrishabha, Kanya, Makara) Navamsa starts from Makara. For Airy signs (Mithuna, Thula, Kumbha) the beginning is from Thula and for the watery signs (Karka, Vrischika and Meena) the order starts from Karka. An Example will clarify this point: Suppose a planet say Mercury is in 150 25’ at Kanya. Kanya is earthy sign. Hence starting point for Navamsa will be Makara. 150 25’ is in the 5th part of the rasi by dividing it with 9. Hence counting 5 from Makara we come to Vrishabha. In the Navamsa chart Mercury will be placed in Vrishabha. Suppose Mars is in Karka 240 10’ then it falls in the 8th part of the rasi. Karka being a watery sign counting is to begin from Karka itself. 8th from Karka is Kumbha where Mars will be placed in Navamsa chart. This is the way Navamsa chart is to be constructed. Relationship of Nakshatra padas and Navamsa I have already mentioned that each Nakshatra is divided into 4 padas and the pada has a characteristic of the sign of the zodiac which starts from Mesha. If you take 3 nakshatras you get 12 padas (3 x 4) which can be equated to the 12 rasis. However each rasi has been assigned only 2¼ Nakshatras or 9 padas only. So counting from Mesha the 9th sign falls in Dhanus. So the next Nakshatra pada should automatically start from Makara. Count 9 signs from Makara to end up in Kanya. The next Nakshatra pada should start from Thula. Similarly counting from Thula the 9th sign falls in Mithuna and naturally the next Nakshatra pada will begin from Karka. So the order of beginning is Mesha, Makara, Thula and Karka which tallies with the basic principle laid down in scriptures and as explained above. To make matters simple I will conclude that the signs of padas and the Navamsa signs are the same. Now let us examine the sample calculation made above according to this new rule: Mercury is in 150 25’ in Kanya. The Nakshatra is Hasta-2nd pada. Count the padas from Ashwini to Hasta – 2nd. Ashiwini to Uttaraphalguni it is 12 Nakshatras or 12 x 4 = 48 pada. Add 2 padas of hasta and the total pada is 50. For the 12 rasis we are allotting 12 padas. Hence 4 x 12 = 48 padas gets allotted to all the 12 rasis. 2 padas remain – starting from Mesha the 2nd rasi will be Vrishabha which gets the 50th pada. So Mercury will be in Vrishabha in the Navamsa Chart which tallies with our principle stated earlier. Let us take the 2nd example also. Mars is in Karka 240 10’. The Nakshatra is Aslesha – 3rd pada. From Ashwini till pushyam 8 Nakshatras or 32 padas are there. Adding the 3 padas of Aslesha we get 35 padas. Staring from Mesha allot each pada and you will end up in Kumbha as the 35th pada. This is what we have arrived at earlier. To complete this calculation you should compute the Nakshatra and the pada in which the planet is placed using the longitude of the planet.

Mangal Dosh

Astrology reading and making of birth charts came into practice much later than the Vedic times. By that time chart making had become a general practice; not only had a lot of time elapsed but the culture, society and human values had changed. All over the world human societies were dependent on agriculture and manpower was used in all activities.
It is an irony of fate that all the shastras or texts were written by men which favour him to the maximum as compared to women. The bias of men can easily be seen in all these texts when one starts looking at them minutely. The same is true for ‘mangal dosha’ or ‘Mars evil’ in astrology. Mars is the most potent planet of the zodiac after the Sun and every astrologer worth his salt, will praise the quality of Mars if it is present in the lagna of his male client. He may say that this person is very strong, courageous, energetic, forceful, dynamic, fearless, can conquer his enemies easily, may become commander –in-chief etc. etc.. However if the same Mars is present in a girl’s chart the astrologer gets depressed himself and makes sure that his client remains depressed for the rest of his life. His total reversal will be seen as he uses words like arrogance, stubborn, aggressive, negative, intolerant, dominating, housebreaker and god-forbid her husband may die due to this harmful Mars. Alas one wonders what has happened to Mars all of a sudden.

According to the prevalent understanding of mangal dosha, the placement of Mars can create havoc if placed in the following houses – 12th, 1st, 4th, 7th and 8th. According to South Indian system of astrology mangal dosha extends to two more houses 2nd and 5th. Mangal dosha is calculated from lagna, Moon and Venus. Acording to this calculation more than 80% people are born ‘manglik’. In other words, if five people are present in a group then four of them are bound to be manglik. It is very difficult to find non-manglik persons according to this calculation.

Lagna represents the physical aspect of human being; Moon denotes the mental makeup of a person and Venus decides the sexual aspect of a human being. The 12th house is considered bad for the placement of Mars because it deals with bed comforts or loss of energy. It is believed that if Mars is present in the 12th house in a woman’s chart especially then her sexual desires may be much more than what her husband can cope with. Therefore a girl born with Mars in the 12th house is generally discarded without giving much importance to the other aspects of her chart.

Lagna or 1st house represents self. If Mars is present in this house especially vis-a-vis to the girl then we had explained what would be the outcome. The 4th house deals with family, comfort and peace of mind. If Mars is placed in the 4th house in a girls chart then sure shot she is going to be a house-breaker sooner or later therefore she is rejected for the happiness of the groom’s family.

The 7th house represents spouse or partner and the placement of Mars in this house can make the girl very demanding from her husband which he cannot easily fulfil. God forbid placement of Mars in the 8th house is a sure shot passport for the death of her husband. The 8th house is considered death house in astrology and Mars being a violent planet one imagines destruction only if it is present in the girls chart.

Our understanding and interpretation of Mars is very different to the prevalent concept. Man and woman are equally important and not lacking in any quality. According to Shivasutra in every man 50% of woman is present and in the same way in every woman 50% man is present. That is why any woman can show her fierce side as and when required and the same way every man has a softer side to him and can exhibit a motherly instinct. No culture no society no country can progress by ignoring or condemning 50% of its population and with changing times women are playing a very important role all over the world and so also in India. If India’s economy is progressing it is because of the large contribution of women power. In Vedic times women were given equal importance and that is why that society and knowledge evolved to the maximum.

Times are changing and so is the awareness of womenfolk especially in India. Astrology is nothing but the understanding, reading and study of time alone. Therefore it is the duty of savant astrologers to adapt to the changing times. According to our understanding if Mars is present in the 12th house of a girl’s chart then instead of creating problems on the sexual level she may be very useful in teaching her husband the inner concept of sex. The deeper understanding of sex is to enjoy it to the hilt and then drop it and move forward. The energy which was going waste or lying dormant can be used for spiritual development. When Mars is present in the 1st house in the woman’s horoscope then she can be a go-getter and solve the problems of a household just as a man does. The job of Mars in the first house is to give ample energy and force to the person so the person can fulfil their tasks with ease. Mars as a planet does not differentiate between girl and boy.

When Mars is placed in the 4th house of a girl’s chart then instead of destroying the peace of the house or fighting with her mother-in-law she will have better ideas to make the house heaven with her positive energy. When Mars is placed in the 7th house in a girl’s chart then in spite of focusing her energy on sex and destruction she can provide total support to her husband which gives freedom to both of them to bring happiness and harmony in the family. There is no truth in it that when Mars is present in the 8th house in a girl’s chart then she brings death to her husband. Birth and death are controlled by the Almighty and man’s role is insignificant in this scheme of the cosmos. The 8th house is also known for its secret power and hidden knowledge and treasure and placement of Mars in this house always contributes in those fields.

Exaltation of planets

The fundamentals of Indian Astrology are the twelve signs and twenty-seven Nakshatras spread along the 360° Zodiac, seven planets and two Chayagrahas (Nodes). Except the Sun and Moon, the other five planets own two signs each. Being mathematical points, the Chayagrahas have no mass and hence no physical existence like other Grahas (planets). However, due to their profound effect on human affairs, these have been assigned the status of planets, though there is difference of opinion among the ancient Rishis about the ownership and exaltation signs of Rahu and Ketu. These nine planets own three Nakshatras each. The traditional Indian astrologers regard only these nine planets quite sufficient for making correct prediction and consider reference to trans-Saturnine planets -Herschel, Neptune and Pluto not necessary. The quality and quantity of the result produced by the planets depends on their location in a sign and house of the horoscope whether in own, mooltrikona, exaltation, friendly or enemy sign and whether in a benefic or evil house. The nine planets have their Ucchasthan (exaltation sign) and the exact opposite sign is their Neechasthan (debilitation sign). An exalted planet produces highly favourable results in its dasa and bhukti. The exaltation of the Sun, Moon and Jupiter improves their benefic qualities, while the exaltation of Mars, Rahu and Ketu mellows down their evil propensities. The exalted planets, however, fail to fulfil the expectations if these are aspected by or associated with, strong malefics, or are debilitated in Navamsa chart. The experience shows that if the horoscope on the whole lacks strength, an exalted planet may not produce the expected result. Moreover, the native should run the dasa of the exalted planet at an appropriate age to enjoy the effect. The rationale behind the exaltation of different planets is as follows : Sun : The Vedic name of the Sun is ‘Aditya’ that is, the son of ‘aditi’, which means ‘of unchangeable nature’. Accordingly the Sun symbolises (immortal soul) and heart. Whenever Sun, its sign Leo, the 5th house and its lord are afflicted by malefic planets, particularly by Rahu, one is prone to heart problem. Another name of the Sun is ‘Bhaskara’, which means “The source of light”. Since human eyes are the instruments for seeing light, there is an intimate connection between the Sun and the eyes. Whenever the second house, its lord and the Sun are afflicted by malefics, one suffers from eye trouble. Yet another name of the Sun is ‘Savitri’ meaning ‘The inspirer’. Astrologically the Sun inspires spirituality (Love of God ). The location of Sun in the 6th house destroys enemies and in the 10th house the Sun gives power, authority, name and fame. Aries, the first sign of the Zodiac, owned by Mars, is assigned the exaltation sign for the Sun. In the natural Zodiac Aries is the 10th house from Leo and the Sun gets sthan bala (positional strength) in the 10th house. Further, Aries is a male, moveable, positive and fiery sign. The Sun is a fixed luminary with fiery element. Mars, the owner of Aries is Sun’s friend, whose qualities of courage and dynamism go well with the Sun’s love of authority and supremacy. Aries is also a male and positive sign which allows Sun a free play. The Sun in exaltation gets dazzling power which adversely affects the eyesight of the native or causes early demise of father for whom the Sun is Karaka (significator). The native also becomes over-bearing and pompous. The highest exaltation point of the Sun is 10° in Aries, which falls in Aswini Nakshatra, whose lord Ketu is significator for ‘Moksha’. Aries represents active surroundings. The Sun in Aswini Nakshatra inclines to spirituality. In spite of active life, the native remains conscious of the goal of his life, that is, liberation or realization of God. The Sun is in deepest debilitation at 10° in Libra sign owned by Venus, in Swati Nakshatra owned by Rahu. Both the house lord and Nakshatra lord are inimical to the nature of the Sun. The Sun is fiery whereas Venus is a watery planet and Rahu causes grahana (eclipse) of the Sun. In such adverse surrounding the Sun is not able to express its qualities which get toned down. Hence the Sun is considered debilitated in Libra. Moon : The Moon is called ‘Soma’ in the Vedas. ‘Soma’ means ‘A gentle refreshing drink’. The other name ‘Chandra’ conveys the sense of pleasure. Hence happiness and pleasure (experienced through mind) and gentle feelings and compassion (found in mother) are astrologically related to the Moon. Whenever the fourth house, its lord and the Moon are associated with, or afflicted by malefics, or otherwise ill placed in the horoscope, the health of mother suffers and the individual lacks peace of mind and may even suffer from psychological and emotional problems. While the Sun is the ring of the solar system, Moon is regarded the queen. The Sun represents soul and the Moon symbolises mind. As the Moon is Queen of the King Sun, adjacent second sign of Zodiac is assigned to the Moon as its exaltation sign. In the natural Zodiac from Cancer (the sign of Moon) Taurus is the 11th sign signifying fulfilment of desires. The highest exaltation point of Moon is 3° in Taurus, in Kritika Nakshatra, whose lord is Sun. The Sun, as stated earlier is Atma or the soul. The Moon representing the mind is in its best state when it is in harmony with the soul. Taurus is governed by Venus, the planet of luxuries. In the fixed and earthy sign Taurus, the fickleness of the Moon is not much tempted by the Venusian surroundings as fixed and earthy sign Taurus controls Moon’s flight of imagination and makes the native worldly wise and practical. The tender nature of Moon finds an easy expression in the feminine Venusian sign of Taurus. The watery nature of the Moon also finds a fertile ground in the earthy sign Taurus. A strong Moon and strong Ascendant make the native rich, famous and contented. One seldom finds a poor or unhappy individual with Moon in Taurus. The Moon is in deep debilitation at 3° in Scorpio, a watery, negative and fixed sign owned by Mars, a fiery planet. Water and fire are inimical in nature. In the selfish sign of Scorpio the sensitivity of Moon acts tainted with selfishness. The Martian influence makes it excited and reckless. The Moon is considered weak within 72° on either side of the Sun. The Moon also represents lungs (4th house). A weak and afflicted Moon in the 8th house makes the native susceptible to dropsy and T.B., and indicates a sickly childhood. An afflicted Moon in 12th house adversely affects the left eye. Mars : The Vedic name of Mars is ‘Angaraka’, meaning ‘burning coal’. The name amply describes the fiery nature of Mars and its red colour. Red colour represents energy, blood, muscles, ambition, enterprise, adventure, the army (who is after the blood of the enemy), accidents (causing loss of blood) and mechanical workshops using furnaces. A Martian native acts in haste without thought. An afflicted or ill placed Mars causes quarrels, accidents and injury commensurate with its affliction. Mars gets the highest exaltation at 28° in Capricorn, in own Nakshatra Dhanishta. The lord of Capricorn, Saturn is bitter enemy of Mars. Mars, as a true soldier, is at its best in enemy’s camp when well guarded in own Nakshatra, always alert and cautious. It is no more rash and develops a sense of caution, reflection and restraint. The earthy sign of Capricorn suits Mars who is Bhumiputra (The son of earth). In the sign of cool and calculative Saturn, Mars gets the virtue of reflection before action. In the natural Zodiac, from Aries (the positive sign of Mars) Capricorn is the 10th house and Mars gets sthanbala (positional strength) in the 10 house. Mars gets deeply debilitated at 28° in Cancer, a watery sign, in the Nakshatra of Ashlesha ruled by inimical Mercury. Such a setting is detrimental to the energy and drive of Mars. In Cancer, the house of imaginative Moon and inimical Mercurian Nakshatra, the Martian characteristic of aggression gets accentuated into recklessness. It is like applying brake to a vehicle running full speed, which results in loss of balance. Hence Cancer is not congenial to Mars and is regarded its debilitation sign. Mercury : ‘Buddha’is the Vedic name of Mercury. ‘Buddha’ means ‘related to Buddhi (intellect)’. Astrological works mention Mercury as significator of education, speech and intellect. Because of the relationship with knowledge, Mercury is known as ‘the knower’. Mercury is a changeable planet, of dual nature, and also owns two dual signs, namely, Gemini and Virgo. Mercury is also the second quickest moving planet after the Moon. By virtue of changeability, it lacks steadiness. In Indian astrology, Mercury is called ‘Kumara’(young boy) who needs support. The Mercurians, like creepers, require a strong support to bloom brilliantly. Mercurians are very good advisers but seldom succeed independently. Out of the four dual signs of the Zodiac, the fiery sign of Sagittarius does not suit Mercurial nature. The watery and mystic sign of Pisces is also not suitable. Both Sagittarius and Pisces are opposite to Mercury’s own signs of Gemini and Virgo. Among the rest, Gemini is its own positive sign, an intellectual sign, and helps in improving Mercurial imagination. Mercury finds a better ground in its earthy and negative sign of Virgo where it becomes practical and pragmatic. The highest point of exaltation of Mercury at 15° Virgo, is in the Nakshatra of Hasta, owned by Moon. Mercury represents intellect, while Moon represents feelings and imagination. When intellect retains its logic and yet is considerate to others, nothing could be more sublime than that. The rationale of Mercury’s exaltation in Virgo is therefore in consonance with moral, spiritual and psychological principles. As stated above, Pisces is not congenial to Mercury where it is regarded debilitated. Its deepest debilitation point is 15°. Although it is a common belief that Mercury is enemy of Jupiter, yet when Mercury is in association with Jupiter, the intellect is definitely elevated. The intuition of Mercury combined with wisdom of Jupiter produces learned scholars and successful astrologers. Venus : The Vedic name of Venus is ‘Shukra’, which has a variety of meanings, such as ‘refined’, ‘sensual’ and ‘seminal’. Venus represents everything that is refined, fine arts, ornaments, luxury items, vehicles and all worldly comforts (Iha-Loka-Sukha). A Venusian is handsome, graceful, full of joy, happiness, love and sympathy, sociable and a person of aesthetic tastes, who completely remains engrossed in enjoyment, which leaves him no time for religion. Venus is also called Kalatra karaka, significator for marriage. A Venusian generally marries early and leads a happy married life. If ever unmarried, his private life will not be above board. When Venus and 7th house are afflicted by malefics, the native becomes a reckless profligate who satisfies his physical passions somehow or the other and also suffers due to over indulgence. According to Hindu mythology, Shukra (Acharya of Asuras) was blinded in one eye by Lord Vishnu during Vaman Avtar. If Venus is not well posited and is afflicted, the eyes are affected. Venus when afflicted by Saturn and Ketu causes skin trouble, being significator for beauty of the skin. The highest exaltation point of Venus is at 27° in Pisces, owned by Jupiter, in Revati Nakshatra, owned by Mercury. Pisces is the last sign of the Zodiac and represents detachment from the worldly pleasures after tasting them, and leads to Moksha. In Pisces the sensuality of Venus gets disciplined, restrained and chastened under the Satvik (Virtuous) influence of Jupiter and discrimination of Mercury. This setting keeps sensual enjoyment within limit and the humanitarian qualities of love, sympathy and compassion become prominent. Venus becomes deeply debilitated at 27° in the opposite sign of Virgo, which is the negative house of Mercury, in Chitra Nakshatra owned by Mars. As Mercury and Venus are natural friends and Virgo is an earthy and moveable sign. Apparently Venus should not give bad results in Virgo. But on deeper insight we notice that its location in Chitra Nakshatra ruled by Mars provides energy to excite the Venusian sensuous character. The changeable nature of Virgo and its imaginative lord Mercury also give a fillip to Venusian indulgence. Hence the debilitation of Venus in Virgo is logical. Jupiter : The Vedic name of Jupiter is ‘Brihaspati’. ‘Brihat’ means large and ‘Pati’ means protector. Jupiter is the most benefic planet. It protects and boosts the affairs of the houses it aspects. In mythology, Jupiter is called Deva Guru or preceptor of devatas. As Guru, Jupiter confers the qualities of wisdom, learning and intellectual achievements. In the horoscope of females, Jupiter is significator for husband. According to the dictum .’Sthan hani karoti Jivah’, Jupiter does not augment the affairs of the house where it is posited, but the houses aspected by it prosper. As significator of progeny it represents the son in particular. The highest exaltation point of Jupiter is 5° in Cancer Sign, which is 5th from Jupiterian sign Pisces. The 5th house denotes intelligence, success, fame and purva punya. The highest exaltation point of Jupiter in Cancer falls in Pushya Nakshatra. In Cancer, owned by Moon, the emotional and imaginative quality of Jupiter gets a boost and makes an idealist philosopher. Pushya’s lord Saturn denotes samadhi. The fickleness of Moon is not able to disturb the spirituality of Jupiter in Pushya Nakshatra. Hence assigning Cancer as the exaltation sign of Jupiter is quite appropriate for blossoming the pious qualities of Jupiter. However, Jupiter’s increased ethical and philosophical nature proves a handicap for material progress. Such a person becomes averse to material gains either for self or for his near and dear ones. This characteristic is pronounced when exalted Jupiter is located in Kendra or Kona in the horoscope. An exalted Jupiter in the 7th house generally inclines a person to celibacy, because he considers marriage and family a burden. Moon, lord of Cancer, is a weak dispositor for exalted Jupiter. For Sagittarius Lagna, Jupiter’s claim to exaltation becomes blemished with location in the 8th house. Pisces lagna in that way is better, as Jupiter occupies the 5th house from it. However, it suffers from the dicta ‘karko bhava nasya’. Despite, all this, it is considered advantageous to have an exalted Jupiter irrespective of its placement, because then it unfolds humanitarian qualities of the individual. Jupiter’s deepest debilitation point is 5° in Capricorn, ruled by Saturn and in Uttarashada Nakshatra ruled by the Sun. While Saturn is cold, self-centered and miserly, Jupiter is warm-hearted, kind and charitable. Capricorn is the 10th sign of natural Zodiac governing profession, position, prestige and status in life. Nakshatra lord Sun also represents power and authority. Jupiter’s nature does not fit in this worldly and materialistic sign. Jupiter’s placement in Capricorn does accentuate materialistic tendencies, but only through honest means and hard work. As Jupiter loses much of its inherent philosophical and philanthropic qualities in this sign, it is considered debilitated in Capricorn. Saturn : Saturn is the fartherest planet from the Sun in the solar system. In Indian mythology he has been assigned the role of the judge of our karmas (actions) and dispenses reward or punishment. Saturn’s distant location affects its movement. Due to slow motion it is also called mandah (slow). Saturn (Shani) is described as ‘Shaneh Shaneh charatri iti Shaneshcharah’. Due to its slow motion Saturn is karaka (significator) for longevity. In the 8th house it increases longevity as an exception to the dictum ‘Karako bhava nasya’. As per another dictum ‘Sthan Vriddhi karoti Mandah’, Saturn gradually augments through hard work the affairs of the house it occupies in a horoscope, and harms the houses aspected therefrom. Being away from the Sun (heat and light), Saturn is cold, dark in complexion, lean, miser, introvert, melancholic, lacking in warmth and happiness. If Saturn is afflicted in the horoscope, the native becomes avaricious, deceitful and conspirator. Thus Saturn stands for paucity, restriction, poverty and turns one to religious pursuits. The effect of Saturn is experienced late in life, generally after 36 year. Being cold, contracting and karaka for 6th, 8th and 12th houses, Saturn causes lingering chronic diseases like paralysis, rheumatism, asthma, neurosis, constipation, tuberculosis, etc. Saturn is exalted in Libra. In the natural zodiac, Libra happens to be the 10th sign from Capricorn and 9th sign from Aquarius, the two houses owned by Saturn. The 10th and 9th houses are the most powerful Kendra and Kona houses in a horoscope. Saturn’s highest exaltation point is 20° in Libra, the positive sign of Venus, in Swati Nakshatra owned by Rahu. Venus the lord of Libra, and Rahu the Nakshatra lord, are Saturn’s friends’ (‘Shani vat Rahu’). Rahu is as much a factor for adversity as Saturn. The miser, selfish and dry Saturn becomes considerably liberal in warm-hearted, sympathetic and benevolent Venusian sign. The caution and prudence of Saturn gains width of vision, expansiveness and becomes charitable and benevolent. In the Nakshatra of Rahu, its friend, Saturn does not forget its essential nature. When a poor man does not get intoxicated on getting wealth, it becomes a rare virtue. An exalted Saturn in Lagna (Libra) gives one high position and comforts in life. Saturn is in deep debilitation at 20° in Aries, the positive and fiery sign of Mars, his bitter enemy. Saturn becomes cynical and foolhardy in Aries. Saturn’s association with Mars produces sinful nature. Hence, debilitation of Saturn in Aries is quite justified. Rahu and Ketu : During its movement around the earth, the orbit of Moon intersects the path of the Sun (Ecliptic) at two points which are exactly 180° apart. When the intersection occurs during the Moon’s motion from South to North, it is called ascending or North Node (Rahu) and when the Moon’s motion is from North to South, the intersection point is called the descending or Southern Node ( Ketu). When the New Moon (on Amavasya) is within 5° from the Nodal point, it intercepts the light of the Sun from reaching the Earth and the phenomenon is called Solar Eclipse. The degree of proximity of the Moon to the Node determines the extent of the eclipse. When the Full Moon (on Purnima) crosses the Nodal point, the shadow of the earth falls on the Moon and a Lunar Eclipse is the result. As the only apparent phenomenon that can be connected with Rahu and Ketu are the eclipses, when shadow (chaya) obscures the Sun or the Moon, the savants of Indian astrology gave them the name of ‘chayagraha’ or shadowy planets. The Western astrologers have named Rahu and Ketu as Dragon’s Head and Dragon’s Tail respectively, thereby revealing their origin from the Hindu mythology. They consider Rahu as benefic and Ketu as malefic, while Indian authorities regard both Rahu and Ketu as tamsik (malefic) in nature. Rahu is often described as giving the results akin to Saturn according to the dictum ‘Shani vat Rahu’. However, while Saturn is cool, clandestine and secretive, Rahu is ambitious, practical and confrontist and believes in achieving the goal by hook or crook. Ketu is said to give results similar to Mars -’Kuja vat Ketu. However, while Mars is active and argumentative, Ketu is psychic and mystical. Rahu has rajsik relationship with Venus, friendly relationship with Saturn and spoils Mercury and Jupiter. Sun, Moon and Mars are Rahu’s enemies. Ketu has satvik relationship with Jupiter and is friendly to the Sun, Moon and Mars. It is neutral to Mercury, while Venus and Saturn are its enemies. Some astrological works assign 5th, 7th, 9th and 12th house full aspect to Rahu and Ketu from their location, while others deny this on the ground that the Nodes are only mathematical point without any mass, volume and light. As malefics, Rahu and Ketu give good result when posited in the 3rd, 6th, 10th and 11th houses of the horoscope. When well situated in the horoscope, associated with or aspected by benefic and Yogakarka planets, they give good results in the matter of finance and prosperity in their ruling period. Rahu (like Saturn) gives chronic diseases depending on its location, aspect and association of malefics, and Ketu (like Mars)causes injury and even death. The majority of Indian authorities have assigned Virgo as own sign to Rahu, Aquarius as its Mooltrikona sign, Gemini as its sign of exaltation and Sagittarius as the debilitation sign of Rahu. Pisces is considered as own sign of Ketu, Leo as its Mooltrikona sign, Sagittarius as its exaltation sign, and Gemini as its house of debilitation. Some authorities consider Taurus as the exaltation sign of Rahu and Scorpio as the exaltation sign of Ketu. The opposite sign Scorpio becomes the sign of debilitation of Rahu and Taurus becomes the sign of debilitation of Ketu. Assigning Gemini as exaltation sign to Rahu appears more logical. Rahu is sensitive in nature and acts as a catalyst in fructification of good or bad events in human life. Gemini is an airy sign owned by intelligent and volatile Mercury. Moreover, Gemini contains the full Nakshatra Aridra owned by Rahu and three Padas of Punarvasu owned by Jupiter. Rahu does not have inimical relationship with Mercury. Rahu is scientific and practical and is quite comfortable in Gemini. It gives the best results when posited in own Nakshatra Aridra from 6°40’ to 20° in Gemini. Similarly Aquarius, the Mooltrikona sign, is also an airy and intellectual sign owned by Rahu’s friend Saturn, and contains its full Nakshatra Satabisha, and three-fourth of Purvabhadrapada Nakshatra owned by Jupiter. In the light of the foregoing the own, mooltrikona and exaltation signs allotted to Ketu, just opposite to Rahu, also hold good. According to Hindu Karma Theory, Rahu denotes the culmination of past sins committed within the family, that give results in this life of the individual, whose destiny is linked with the family. On the other hand, Ketu is the means through which this family curse or destiny can be altered by intelligent and constructive efforts directed into wholesome channels for attaining liberation, after the prarabdha ( results of past Karma) has been worked out in the pattern of destiny. Ketu is, therefore, called Mokshakaraka. To conclude, exaltation sign of the planets have been allotted on the basis of valid rationale and logic. The result produced by an exalted planet is commensurate with the nearness of the planet to its highest exaltation point and are experienced during its dasa-bhukti, provided it is not afflicted by malefics or debilitated in Navamsa Chart. 

Can correct muhurat be the road to success

“Success, for its final conquest and glory ,depends entirely on the auspicious time at which the work begins…..When all the influences contained in time are well disposed, as they would be at the proper time, called Shubha Lagna and the planetary conjunctions are well arranged and disposed, the work begun – though under difficulties- will be helped by the invisible currents, which flow freely as the result of a good start time. Importance of time and its mysterious influences cannot be gauged, unless with the help of Astrology and when these influences are well analysed and understood success will be facilitated by the introduction of powerful currents.”- But, on mulling over the above lines, a question arose in my mind as to whether success is guaranteed in any work commenced by any body at an hour auspicious for performing such a work. If this is possible, why at all even best efforts do not yield desired results at least on some occasions in almost everyone’s life ? This article of mine is the result of my efforts to find an answer to this question. Origin of Muhurtha : The selection of a favourable time for performing not only Shodasa Samskaras but also all the day to day activities of importance has been in vogue right from the vedic times in order to achieve the material goals in life with minimum effort and to orient each and every human action towards the fulfillment of the final goal i.e., moksha sadhana. Muhurtha was the primary application of the science of Astrology during the Vedic times. Later on, its utility in other spheres of life has been explored, understood and practised. The Vedas prescribe multifarious rituals for the emancipation of mankind. The whole of Rig Veda Samhita contains mantras for extolling different deities. Yajur Veda gives the practical application for these mantras in the form of worship (Yajna) and the method of performing different yajnas. The glory of Yajur veda lies in its detailed presentation of Vedic Karmas and rituals. In addition, some mantras /hymns of praise are also contained in Yajur Veda. In Sama Veda, the mantras are set to music . In Atharvana Veda, many types of mantras to ward off evils and hardships to human beings are available . Besides, some mantras pertaining to Devatas not mentioned in the other Vedas are also available. The Vedas have been collectively personified in to a Veda Purusha with 6 body parts (Vedangas ) and many other sub parts (Upaangas). Vedic Jyothisha has been called as the ‘Veda chakshu’ meaning , the eyes of the Vedas. In actuality , a few hundred slokas available in the “Brahmanas” portion of the Rig , Yajur and Sama Vedas containing the injunctions as to the time of performing all the vedic rights and rituals( the Yagnas and shodasa Karmas) based on the favourable planetary positions are the original basis of Astrology. But, in course of time, it has been developed in to a greater science . Today, there are more than 4 Lakhs of Sanskrit verses forming three major branches of the science viz., Siddhantha, Samhitha and Hora skandas. Electional Astrology or Muhurtha , the branch of Astrology dealing with the selection of auspicious times , falling in Samhitha Skanda . Scope of muhuratha : Due to various changes in the living style of human beings over the centuries and with the on set of technological advancements and the resultant inventions of newer tools, techniques and vocations for living , the necessity for muhurtha has increased many fold. Almost all aspects of life including Muhurthas related to agriculture like sowing seed, harvesting, etc, House construction related ones like Kooparambha, Gruharambha, Gruhapravesha, etc, Muhurthas related to Journeying, Coronation, oath taking /assumption of offices of power, Yantra, Mantra and Tantra related muhurthas for various types of Shanthis besides the performance of Shodasa Karmas, Homas, Yagnas, etc., and occupational muhurthas for opening different types of business establishments and trade centres are included in Electional Astrology. All the practising Astrologers are fully aware of the difficulty in finding a good ‘dosha rahitha’ muhurtha . Even the best of Astrologers candidly admit that finding a good muhurtha bereft of the Ekavimshati (21) doshas takes a good lot of time . At times, even after burning the midnights oil, the efforts to find a dosharahitha muhurtha would not be crowned with success .The process of election of a muhurtha is so tedious and time-consuming that I am prompted to think whether it is worthwhile taking all that trouble and what is the practical relevance of muhurtha if it cannot be adopted easily ? (While saying so I do not mean those astrologers who fix all muhurthas in a couple of minutes based only on a few parameters such as Tarabala, chandrabala, etc., with utter disregard to the basic tenets of muhurtha advocated by the rishis of yore. No doubt, such Pseudo –Astrologers are causing irreparable damage to the credibility of Astrology). Can Muhurtha Supersede fete? However, even today there are a good number of dedicated astrologers who honestly labour for many hours and fix blemish-less muhurthas or the best possible one under the extant conditions. But, whether those who adopt such good muhurthas also get the desired results? The answer is a clear “No” . Even after following the best muhurthas selected by the best of astrologers, not all people succeed in all their endeavours. There are a lot of failures. Many houses commenced in auspicious muhurthas do not see their completion, Many marriages planned on auspicious days do not take place at all or get postponed . Even if it takes place, not all those who marry live a happy married life. Many business activities launched in an auspicious hour have not flourished and were shut down within a few months of start. The list continues. Whether all these failures can be due to the incompetence of the astrologers alone?. Certainly not. Let us consider some epic instances. The muhurtha for coronation of Sri Rama in Ramayana was fixed by none other than the renowned Rajarishi Vashishta who was an adept in Astrology. But, why did the day of coronation turn in to a day of mourning? The crown prince Rama , instead of being crowned as the King, had to move to forest in exile for 14 long years . Was it because the sage Vashishta was an incapable astrologer or the muhurtha fixed was faulty ? No. Absolutely not. Vashishta maharishi was the most respected of all gurus in those days for his erudition of shashtras , whose recognition even the renowned Vishwamitra is said to have longed for. Let us consider another example from the Mahabharatha. All of us are aware that, at the request of Duryodhana, the muhurtha for commencement of Kurukshetra war was finalized by Sahadeva , the best of all Astrologers who lived then. Is it not because of Sahadeva’s matchless qualities as an astrologer that even Duryodhana chose him to fix the time for that decisive battle ? But, what happened ,did Duryodhana achieve victory in the war although the greatest of the warriors of those days like Beeshma, Dronacharya , Karna and many others fought for him? We all know the result. Duryodhana not only lost the battle but also his life in it alongwith the lives of his other brothers as well. Was it because of a faulty muhurtha? No. Absolutely not. Then, what is the reason?. Why success eludes some persons even if the work is commenced in an auspicious muhurtha? The answer to this question lies in the Karma siddhantha. The Fate or Karmaphala of the individuals being the ultimate deciding factor what if the work is carried out even in an auspicious hour . Unless one is destined to get success even the best efforts would go in vain and success keeps eluding the person attempt after attempt. Only when one has endured ones karma phala and the time is ripe for his wish to materialize one would meet with success in any of his endeavours. In fact, it should be remembered that one will not even get a good astrologer for suggesting the proper time for commencing the work unless his time of success is around or has arrived. That is why our ancestors have said – “ Buddhi Karmaanusaarini” – meaning, the mind works according to ones karmic influence. Thus, it is needless to reiterate that every individual is driven by his fate in each and every one of his actions . The individual is ‘only mentally’ made to believe that he had done the right thing although he was actually wrong. This , in fact , is the role of this “Maya Jagat” in shaping one’s destiny and making one reap his karmic fruits. The need for muhurth : Now, there arises another question .If fate is exerting such an irrevocable influence, what is the need for muhurtha? Well. Muhurtha certainly has a role to play in shaping the future destiny of the individual ,for it is the method of electing both the conducive time for proper completion of any work as well as an auspicious time for providing the native with the rightfully desired results at the deserving opportune moment by harmonizing the moment of work with a conducive environment created by the particular set of combination of Vara, thithi, nakshatra ,yoga, karana, and other limbs of time tuned to the indications of the native’s horoscope. Thus, the Quality of the Moment of Muhurtha becomes capable of influencing the fate of the individual . Although the end-result is guided by Prarabda karma, at least by doing our works at right time we will not be attracting the provisions of Agami Karma , for we reap later the fruits of what we sow today. Not only that. Let us think for a while whether it is wise to resign to fate leaving everything to destiny’s clutches neglecting the possibility of at least minor modifications through human effort by way of adopting a good Muhurtha . Our ancestors have already answered this question . Even if one wishes to rule the whole world, his wish would be fulfilled if he puts his efforts only at the right time , at the right place. Couplet 4 of Chapter 49 of Thirukkural by Sage Thiruvalluvar , translated into English , reads thus: “Choose proper time and act and place Even the world you win with ease” . Also, Vishnu Sharma , author of the renowned ‘Panchatantra Tales’ avers- “Udyamena hi Siddhayanthi Kaaryaani Na mano rathai hi” - meaning, efforts can only grant success in endeavours and not only thinking of it. Sage Yagnavalkya says in his ‘Smiriti’ thus- “ Daivee Purusha kaare cha Karmasiddhi vyavasthitha Thathra Daivam abhivyaktham Powrusham Powrvadhehikam” • meaning, the success of any work depends both on luck and the human effort . In this, the person’s karma phala ( gained from past births) is only called as god’s grace or luck . In the words of Maharishi VedaVyaasa - “Yatha Beejam vina Kshetramuptham bavathi nishphalam Thatha Purusha Kaarena vina Daivam na siddhayanthi“ ( Mahabharatha , Anusasana parva ,sl.6&7) • meaning , If we plant a crop without a seed it does not yield anything. Similarly, if human effort is not made, God’s grace (luck) will not yield anything. There are hundreds of such axioms by our ancestors who have understood the real nature of life through their sadhaka jeevana. Therefore, unless one puts ones right efforts at the right time , one cannot hope to succeed in ones endeavours. Simultaneously,one shall not also desist from trying for fear of failure because we have the chances of success if only we try and not otherwise. It is Electional Astrology (Muhurtha) that guides ones efforts to the right way at a right time . The chances of success are surely amplified by adopting a good muhurtha.

बलारिष्ट योग

बालारिष्ट, यानी अवकाश में घूम रहे ग्रहों के जिस योग से बालक को अरिष्ट होता है, यानी जब किसी जातक का जन्म होता है, तब अवकाश में घूम रहे ग्रहों का कोई ऐसा योग बन जाये कि नवजात शुशु के आयुष्य, स्वास्थ्य पर उसका बुरा प्रभाव पड़े और बालक बारह साल की उम्र तक कष्टमय जीवन बिताये, या उसका जीवन बारह साल की आयु तक सीमीत रह जाए, तो इस योग को बालारिष्ट योग कहते हैं। ऋषि-मुनियों ने इस योग के बारे में उनके द्वारा लिखे गये ग्रंथों में जोर-शोर से चर्चा की है। बालारिष्ट में केवल बालक को ही अरिष्ट नहीं होता, अपितु उसके जन्म लेते ही उसके साथ जुड़े हुए लोगों को भी अरिष्ट होता है, जैसे बालक के जन्म लेते ही माता की मृत्यु हो जाना, पिता की मृत्यु हो जाना, माता एवं पिता पर कोई बड़ा संकट आ जाए, जो मातृ कष्ट बालारिष्ट एवं पितृ कष्ट बालारिष्ट के नाम से जाने जाते हैं। यहां एक ऐसी कुंडली की चर्चा करते हैं, जिसमें बालक के जन्म के 6 महीने में माता की मृत्यु हो जाती है। यह सिंह लग्न की कुंडली है। लग्न में बुध, चतुर्थ स्थान में केतु, सप्तम स्थान में मंगल, दशम स्थान में राहु, शनि ग्यारहवें भाव में और सूर्य, चंद्र, शुक्र एवं बृहस्पति बारहवें स्थान में हंै। नवांश तुला लग्न का है। तुला नवांश में सूर्य, चंद्र, शनि, राहु, मकर नवांश में स्थित है। मंगल कुंभ नवांश में, बृहस्पति मीन नवांश में है, बुध, केतु और शुक्र, अनुक्रम से वृषभ, कर्क एवं सिंह नवांश में हैं। पराशर होरा शास्त्र के अरिष्टाध्याय में श्लोक नंबर 24 में कहा गया है कि चंद्रमा, पाप ग्रहों से युक्त हो कर, बलवान पाप ग्रहों से देखा जाए तो यह योग बनता है। चंद्रमा पापयुक्त हो तथा चंद्र से छः-सात भावों में एक साथ पाप ग्रह हो, यह दूसरा योग है इसमें बालक की माता की मृत्यु होती है। इस कुंडली में, जातक तत्वम, जो पंडित महादेव पाठक की रचना है के अनुसार शुक्र, या चंद्रमा पाप कर्तरी में हो तथा वे पाप ग्रहों से दृष्टित या पापयुक्त हो, तो माता की मृत्यु हो जाती है। इस कुंडली में चंद्रमा, पाप ग्रहों से युक्त हो कर बारहवें भाव में बैठा है, लेकिन किसी बलवान पाप ग्रहों से देखा नहीं जाता। दूसरे योग के अनुसार चंद्रमा पापयुक्त है तथा चंद्रमा से छठे एवं सातवें भाव में पाप ग्रह नहीं है। यहां दोनों ही योग अधूरे और होते हुए भी, बालक की माता की मृत्यु हुई। तीसरे योग में लिखा है कि शुक्र, या चंद्रमा पाप ग्रहों के अंतराल में हो तथा वह पाप ग्रहों से युत, या दृष्ट हो यहां शुक्र और चंद्रमा दोनों ही पाप ग्रह से युक्त हंै तथा पाप ग्रहों के अंतराल में भी है, पूर्ण रूप से लागू होता है। इस कुंडली में न केवल मातृ कष्ट बालारिष्ट योग है, अपितु बालक पर स्वयं बालारिष्ट लागू होता है। होरा शास्त्र के अनुसार चंद्रमा दो पाप ग्रहों के बीच में हो तथा 1, 8, 7 और 12वें भाव में से कहीं भी स्थित हो, तो बालक की मृत्यु हो जाती है। यहां चंद्रमा 12वें भाव में सूर्य और शनि के बीच रहता है। 12वें भाव में सूर्य 11 अंश का, चंद्रमा 10 अंश का है एवं शनि के 11वें भाव में रहने से चंद्रमा सूर्य और शनि के बीच आ जाता है। चंद्रमा की क्षीणता, 1, 8, 12 वें भाव में पाप ग्रह का रहना, केंद्र में पाप योग एवं शुभ ग्रह का अभाव, ये अरिष्ट के मौलिक कारण हैं। इस योग में शुभ ग्रह योग न रहने पर ही सत्याचार्य ने इससे मृत्यु होना बताया है। इस कुंडली में चंद्रमा द्वादश भाव में क्षीणता प्राप्त करता है। द्वादश भाव में सूर्य पाप ग्रह है। तीनों केंद्रों में केतु, मंगल, राहु बैठे हैं। चारो केंद्र में शुभ ग्रह के न रहने से बालक की मृत्यु निश्चित है।

परम पुण्यदायी और मोक्ष कारक ग्रह : केतु

छाया ग्रह केतु परम पुण्यदायी और मोक्ष कारक है। जिस ग्रह के साथ केतु बैठता है उसी के अनुसार कार्य करता है। सामान्यतः यह मंगल के समान कार्य करता है। केतु की अच्छी स्थिति के बिना मोक्ष प्राप्ति संभव नहीं है। कारकांश कुंडली से राजयोग: जिस प्रकार लग्नेश व पंचमेश के संबंध से राजयोग देखा जाता है, उसी प्रकार आत्मकारक और पुत्र कारक से राजयोग देखना चाहिए। आत्मकारक और पुत्रकारक दोनों लग्न या पंचम भाव में बैठे हों अथवा परस्पर दृष्ट हों अथवा उनमें किसी प्रकार का संबंध हो और अपने उच्च नवांश या स्व की राशि में स्थित हो तथा शुभ ग्रहों द्वारा दृष्ट हो तो महाराज योग होता है।भाग्येश और आत्मकारक लग्न, पंचम या सप्तम में हो तो हाथी घोड़े और धन से युक्त राज्य देते हैं। कारक से 2, 4, 5 भाव में शुभ ग्रह हो तो निश्चय ही राजयोग प्रदान करते हैं। राजयोगों जन्मलग्नं पश्यंदुच्चग्रहों यदि। षष्ठाष्टमेगते नीचे लग्नं पश्यति योगकृत।। अपनी उच्चराशि में स्थित ग्रह लग्न को देखता हो तो राजयोग होता है। छठे, आठवें भाव में अपनी नीच राशि में बैठा ग्रह यदि लग्न को देखे तो वह राजयोग कारक होता है। अथवा षष्ठेश या अष्टमेश तीसरे या ग्यारहवें भाव में बैठकर लग्न को देखते हों तो राजयोग प्रदान करते हैं। सारांश यह है कि जन्मलग्न या कारकांश लग्न को देखने वाले ग्रह भी राजयोग कारक होते हैं। राहु-केतु के कारकत्व: दो ग्रहों के अंश समान होने पर सूर्य से राहु पर्यंत आठ ग्रहों में आत्मादि कारकों का विचार करना चाहिए। अतः आत्मादि कारकों में केतु को सम्मिलित नहीं किया गया है। महर्षि पाराशर जी ने केतु को घाव-फोड़ा आदि रोग, चर्म रोग, अत्यंत शूल (दर्द), भूख से कष्ट आदि का कारक बताया है। व्रणरोग चर्मातिशूलस्फुट क्षुधार्तिकारकः केतुः (बृ.पा.हो. 12/09) कहते हैं कि अंतरिक्ष में केतु की धर्म- ध्वजा सूर्य से भी अधिक ऊंची है, जो ब्रह्मलोक को स्पर्श करती है। इसलिए केतु का झण्डा आध्यात्मिक पराकाष्ठा का प्रतीक है। केतु वेदान्त दर्शन, महान तपस्या, वैराग्य, ब्रह्मज्ञान आदि शक्तियों के उत्थान का प्रतीक है। ‘केतौ कैवल्यम’ महर्षि जैमिनी ने केतु को मोक्ष का स्थिर कारक माना है। यदि केतु कारकांश लग्न से द्वाद्वश भाव में स्थित हो तो मनुष्य को मोक्ष प्राप्त हो जाता है। बृहद पाराशर होराशास्त्रम के अनुसार कारकांश से बारहवें भाव में मेष या धनु राशि में केतु स्थित हो तथा उस पर शुभ ग्रह की दृष्टि हो तो व्यक्ति को मोक्षपद की प्राप्ति होती है। यह मत अधिक उपयुक्त है। सद्गति में कौन देवता सहायक: व्यक्ति की आध्यात्मिक उन्नति में कौन से देवी-देवता सहायक होंगे। किस देवी-देवता के सहारे साधक की जीवन नैया भवसागर से पार उतरेगी। अपने अनुकूल देवी-देवता को पहचान कर उसकी भक्ति-आराधना करनी चाहिए क्योंकि आपके अनुकूल देवी-देवता ही आपकी सद्गति में सहायक होता है तथा वह स्वर्ग लोक और मोक्ष आदि की प्राप्ति कराता है। कारकांश लग्न से बारहवें भाव में केतु सूर्य से युत हो तो जातक गौरा-पार्वती की भक्ति करने वाला शाक्त होता है। कारकांश लग्न से बारहवें भाव में केतु चंद्रमा से युत हो तो सूर्य का उपासक होता है। कारकांश लग्न से बारहवें भाव में केतु शुक्र से युत हो तो लक्ष्मी का उपासक और धनी होता है। कारकांश लग्न से बारहवें भाव में केतु मंगल से युत हो तो स्कंद (कार्तिकेय) का भक्त, बुध या शनि से युत हो तो भगवान विष्णु का उपासक, गुरु से युत हो तो शिव का उपासक होता है। कारकांश लग्न से बारहवें भाव में राहु हो तो तामसी दुर्गा (कालिका, चामुण्डा) का और भूत-प्रेतादि का सेवक होता है तथा केतु (अकेला) हो तो गणेश या स्कंद का उपासक होता है। कारकांश लग्न से बारहवें भाव में शनि या शुक्र पाप ग्रह की राशि में हो तो क्षुद्र देवता (छोटे देवता) का उपासक होता है। तत्व ज्ञाता का मरणान्त कृत्य: ओमित्येकाक्षरं ब्रह्म व्याहरन्मामनुस्मरम्। यः प्रयाति त्यजन्देहं स याति परमांगतिम्।। भगवान विष्णु कहते हैं- हे गरुड़! एकाक्षर ब्रह्म ऊँकार का जप तथा मेरा स्मरण करते-करते जो जीव शरीर का त्याग करता है वह परमगति (मोक्ष) को प्राप्त होता है।’’ यह अकस्मात् संभव नहीं हो सकता, इसके लिए पहले से ही हमें ध्यान योग में अभ्यस्त होना पड़ेगा। अतः अपने मस्तक में हमंे ऊँ का ध्यान करना चाहिए। सूर्य की रश्मियां जीवात्मा को ब्रह्मलोक ले जाती है- छान्दोग्योपनिषद् में बताया गया है कि सूर्य की रश्मियां मृत्युलोक व सूर्यलोक दोनों जगह गमन करती है। वे सूर्य मण्डल से निकलती हुई शरीर की नाड़ियों में व्याप्त हो रही है तथा नाड़ियों से निकलती हुई सूर्य में फैली हुई हैं। जब तक शरीर रहता है तब तक हर जगह और हर समय सूर्य रश्मियां शरीर की नाड़ियों में व्याप्त रहती हैं। अत ब्रह्मवेŸाा ज्ञानी पुरुष का किसी भी समय (दिन-रात, शुक्ल-कृष्ण पक्ष,उत्तारायण या दक्षिणायन) में निधन होने पर, सूक्ष्म शरीर सहित जीवात्मा का, नाड़ियों द्वारा तत्काल सूर्य की रश्मियों से संबंध होता है। सूर्य की रश्मियां उसे सूर्य मार्ग (देवयान मार्ग) ब्रह्मलोक में ले जाती हैं। ऐसा ब्रह्म विद्या व तत्व ज्ञान के प्रभाव से होता है। जो ब्रह्मविद्या के रहस्य को जानते हैं तथा वन में रहकर श्रद्धापूर्वक सत्य की उपासना करते हैं, वे अर्चि (अग्नि) को प्राप्त होेते हैं। अर्चि से दिन को, दिन से शुक्ल पक्ष को, शुक्ल पक्ष से उत्तारायण के छः महीने को, उत्तारायण के छः महीनों से संवत्सर को, संवत्सर से सूर्य को, सूर्य से ब्रह्मलोक को जाते हैं। यह देवयान मार्ग है- इस अर्चिआदि देवयान मार्ग का ही गीता में उल्लेख उत्तारायण मार्ग से किया गया है। अग्निज्र्योतिरहः शुक्लः षणमासा उत्तरायणम्। तत्र प्रयाता गच्छन्ति ब्रह्म ब्रह्मविदो जनाः।। पुण्यात्मा को स्वर्ग प्राप्ति: तत्वज्ञों/ब्रह्मवेŸााओं को मोक्ष और धार्मिकों को स्वर्ग की प्राप्ति होती है। आसक्त भाव से किये गये यज्ञ, दान, जप और परोपकार आदि शुभ कर्मों का फल स्वर्ग प्राप्ति है। छान्दोग्यो पनिषद् के अनुसार जो यहां (गांव या शहर में) रहकर इच्छापूर्वक दानादि सकाम पुण्यकर्म करते हैं वे धूम्र मार्ग से जाते हैं। धूम्र मार्ग से गये हुए पुण्यकर्मा पुरुष धूम्र रात्रि से कृष्णपक्ष को, कृष्णपक्ष से दक्षिणायन के छः महीनांे को, वहां से चंद्रलोक को और चंद्रलोक से पितृलोक को तथा पितृलोक से स्वर्गलोक को जाते हंै। स्वर्गलोक में रहकर स्वर्ग के सुखों को भोगते हंै। बहुत समय पश्चात पुण्य कर्मों का फल क्षीण होने पर पुनः पृथ्वी लोक में मनुष्य योनी में जन्म लेते हैं। यहां रात्रि, कृष्णपक्ष व दक्षिणायन आदि काल नहीं है, इनका संबंध तो पितृयान मार्ग में पड़ने वाले कालाभिमानी देवताओं से है। इनका कार्य पुण्यात्मा पुरुष की सहायता करना है।

राजनीती में राहु का प्रभाव

जन्मकुंडली में सात ग्रहों के साथ दो छाया ग्रह राहु एवं केतु को भी उनके गोचर के अनुसार स्थापित किया जाता है। वैदिक युग में राहु ग्रह नहीं था, बल्कि एक राक्षस था। पौराणिक युग में उस राक्षस के दो भाग हो गये। समुद्र मंथन के पश्चात् मिले अमृत को देवताओं में बांटते समय धोखे से अमृतपान करने के पश्चात राक्षस का सिर भगवान श्री हरि विष्णु द्वारा सुदर्शन चक्र द्वारा धड़ से अलग हो गया। सिर-राहु में तथा धड़ केतु में अमर हो गया। पौराणिक गाथाआंे में राहु-केतु सर्प के सिर और पूंछ माने गये। राहु के काल तथा केतु को सर्प भी माना गया है। राहु और केतु दोनों ही पापग्रह हैं। राहु स्त्रीलिंग है। आद्र्रा, स्वाति, शतभिषा नक्षत्रों पर उसका शासन है। 3, 6, 11 भावों में इसे अच्छा मानते हैं। रामचरितमानस में तुलसीदास जी ने लिखा है- ‘‘अजहुं देत दुख रवि शशिह सिर अवेशषित राहु’’ उच्चराशि मिथुन, नीचराशि धनु है। इसकी जाति म्लेच्छ एवं आकृति दीर्घ तथा दिशा नैर्ऋत्य है। राहु का रत्न गोमेद है। बृहत्पाराशर होराशास्त्र के अनुसार पंचम भाव में राहु हो और उस पर मंगल की दृष्टि हो अथवा पंचम भाव में मंगल की राशि हो तो पूर्वजन्म के सर्पशाप के कारण इस जन्म में ऐसी कुंडली वाले जातक के पुत्र नहीं होते हैं। यदि होते हैं तो भी मृत्यु को प्राप्त हो जाते हैं। राहु केतु की उच्चता व नीचता के विषय में ज्योतिषियों में बड़ा मतभेद है। ‘‘राहोस्तु कन्यका गेहं मिथुन स्वाच्चमं समृतम् कन्या राहु ग्रह प्रोक्त राहुच्च मिथुन समृतम् राहानीचिं धनुः प्रोक्त केतोः सप्तम मेवच’’ राहु कन्या राशि में स्वगृही तथा मिथुन में उच्च तथा धनु में नीच माना जाता है एवं इसकी मूल त्रिकोण राशि कर्क मानी गई है। परंतु कई ज्योतिष शास्त्री राहु को वृषभ राशि में उच्च एवं केतु वृश्चिक में उच्च तथा इसकी मूल त्रिकोण कुंभ और प्रिय राशि मिथुन मानी है। राहोस्तु वृषभ केतोः वृश्चिके तुंभ संजितम्। मूल त्रिकोण कुंभचं प्रिय मिथुन उच्चते।। बृहत्पाराशर होरा में राहु का उच्च वृष, केतु का उच्च वृश्चिक, राहु मूल त्रिकोण कर्क, केतु का मूल त्रिकोण मिथुन और धनु, राहु का स्वगृह कन्या व केतु का स्वगृह मीन माना है। इस तरह राहु के स्वगृह, उच्च, मूल त्रिकोण और नीच के बारे में ज्योतिष सर्व सम्मत नहीं है। राहु को ब्रह्माजी ने ग्रह होने का वरदान तो दिया परंतु छाया जैसे घूमती है (वक्र गति) वैसे ही ये ग्रह घूमते हैं। इसलिए राहु के परिणाम आकस्मिक होते हैं। कई ज्योतिषी राहु-केतु को ग्रह ही नहीं मानते हैं। राहु-केतु ग्रहण में सूर्य और चंद्र के विमर्दक हैं, अतः प्रबल पाप ग्रह हैं। परंतु आकाश में इनका अपना बिंब नहीं है, अतः ये स्वतंत्र फलकारक नहीं हैं। राहु नवम स्थान में हो और नवमेश यदि बलवान हो तो अच्छा फलकारक होता है। विशेषरूप से बुध नवमेश हो तो अचानक भाग्य चमकता है, राहु, शनि के साथ हो तो धन हानि योग कर देता है। यदि जन्मकुंडली में चंद्रमा एवं राहु का परस्पर संबंध हो तो, व्यक्ति की मानसिक स्थिति को असामान्य बनाता है। यदि यह संबंध शुभ हो, तो जातक जीवन में अप्रत्याशित सफलताएं प्राप्त करता है व यदि चंद्रमा राहु के साथ दूषित स्थिति में हो तो जातक को जीवन में अनेक उतार-चढ़ाव, अस्थिरता एवं धोखे की स्थितियों का सामना करना पड़ता है। चंद्रमा यदि अपनी नीच राशि वृश्चिक में हो तो तथा उस पर राहु की दृष्टि हो तो जातक मन से परेशान रहता है। चंद्रमा यदि अष्ट्म भाव में राहु के प्रभाव में हो तो, उससे त्रिकोण में राहु का गोचर जातक को लंबी यात्राओं के लिए विवश कर देता है। यदि चंद्रमा द्वादश भाव में हो तथा राहु से प्रभावित हो तो, उससे त्रिकोण में राहु का गोचर धन हानि करता है। किसी कारणवश धन का अपव्यय होता है या जातक ठगी का शिकार हो जाता है। राहु की महादशा जातक के लिए विशेष महत्वपूर्ण होती है। यदि राहु के नक्षत्रों में बली एवं योगकारण ग्रह स्थित हांे तो ऐसे जातक के लिए राहु की दशा-महादशा अतीव शुभ फलदायक होती है।

इस संसार में कुछ लोग अपने जीवन में जल्दी तरक्की कर जाते हैं जबकि कुछ लोगों को इसके लिए बहुत संघर्ष करना पड़ता है। कई बार इतना संघर्ष करने के बावजूद सफलता नहीं मिल पाती है। कुछ बहुत ही अमीर घर में पैदा होते हैं और कुछ लोग बहुत ही गरीब घर में। कुछ अमीर घर में पैदा होकर धीरे-धीरे गरीब हो जाते हैं और कुछ लोग गरीब घर में पैदा होकर धीरे-धीरे अमीर हो जाते हैं। कुछ लोग बहुत अच्छा पढ़ लिखकर बेरोजगार रहते हैं और कुछ लोग थोड़ा पढ़े लिखे होने पर भी अच्छे काम काज में लग जाते हैं। कुछ लोग कहते हैं कि बच्चे के जन्म के बाद घर में बहुत तरक्की हुई और सब कुछ अच्छा हो गया जबकि कुछ लोग कहते हैं कि जब से बच्चा पैदा हुआ मां बाप बीमार रहते हैं और घर में परेशानी आ गई है। कुछ लोग कहते हैं कि शादी के बाद पत्नी के आने से तरक्की और उन्नति होती गई जबकि कुछ लोग कहते हैं कि शादी के बाद दिन प्रतिदिन काम खराब हो रहा है। इस संसार में अधिकतर लोग चढ़ते हुए सूर्य को नमस्कार करते हैं। अगर आप अच्छे पद पर हंै या आपको सब प्रकार की सुख सुविधा है तो आपके अनेक मित्र होंगे, अगर कुछ नहीं तो आपको कोई पूछने वाला नहीं होगा। ज्योतिष में नवम स्थान को भाग्य एवं धर्म स्थान माना जाता है। जन्मपत्री देखते समय सभी विषयों पर विस्तार पूर्वक विचार करना चाहिए। सबसे पहले लग्न को देखें, वह एक अंश से कम और 29 अंश से अधिक नहीं होना चाहिए। अगर लग्न कमजोर हो या संधि में हो तो कुंडली कमजोर होती है। लग्नेश के अस्त होने पर कुंडली में बहुत ही खराबी आ जाती है। ऐसे में ग्रह कितने भी अच्छे हों, कुछ न कुछ परेशानी बनी रहेगी। लग्नेश वक्री हो और अपने स्थान से छठे, आठवें या बारहवें, चला गया हो तो कंुडली कमजोर होगी। ज्योतिष में गुरु, शुक्र, बुध और पक्षबली चंद्रमा को शुभ माना गया है। अगर ये ग्रह केंद्र या त्रिकोण में हों, तो कुंडली में अरिष्ट भंग करते हैं अर्थात अच्छा योग बनाते हैं। जन्मकुंडली में त्रिकोण स्थान 1, 5, 9 और केंद्र स्थान 1, 4, 7, 10 को अच्छा माना गया है लग्न। (प्रथम स्थान) को केंद्र और त्रिकोण दोनों माना गया है। जन्मकुंडली में आमदनी और धन के लिए दूसरा और ग्यारहवां स्थान दोनों अच्छे हंै, लेकिन तंदुरस्ती के लिए नहीं क्योंकि दूसरा स्थान मारक है और ग्यारहवां छठे से छठा है। जन्मकुंडली में 6, 8, 12 स्थानों को खराब माना जाता है। इसलिए अगर लग्नेश, भाग्येश, नवमेश, लाभेश और धनेश केंद्र या त्रिकोण में हों, तो कुंडली में अच्छा योग बन जाता है। अगर कोई अच्छा ग्रह नवम में हो, तो अच्छा फल देता है। चंद्रमा पक्ष बली हो और उस पर किसी पापी ग्रह का प्रभाव नहीं हो, तो जन्मपत्री में बहुत ही शक्ति आ जाती है। कुंडली में चंद्रमा की स्थिति बहुत अच्छी होने से आधी कुंडली स्वतः ही शुभ है और खराब होने से अशुभ होती है।

जीवन को स्वस्थ रखने कुंडली का अध्ययन करवाएं

स्वस्थ न रहने के ज्योतिषीय कारण: जब आपकी कुंडली में लग्न, लग्नेश, चंद्र लग्न, चंद्र लग्नेश, सूर्य लग्न व सूर्य लग्नेश कमजोर या पीड़ित हो और किसी शुभ ग्रह का प्रभाव न हो तो जातक को स्वास्थ्य संबंधी परेशानियों का सामना करना पड़ता है। अगर आप अत्यधिक मोटापे से परेशान हैं तो क्या करें? - ऐसा अक्सर देखा गया है कि आप व्यायाम भी करते हैं, दौड़ भी लगाते हैं, खाना भी कम खाते हैं किंतु फिर भी आप मोटे होते चले जा रहे हैं। ऐसी स्थिति में आप किसी भी शनिवार की सायंकाल को रांगा धातु की अंगूठी मध्यमा अंगुली में डालें ( रांगा धातु जो बर्तनों को कलई करने के काम में आता है)। साथ में आप जो भी व्यायाम करते हैं, करते रहें व अपने खान-पान पर ध्यान भी रखें आपको अवश्य लाभ होगा। अगर आप आलस्य से पीड़ित हैं तो क्या करें? - मंगलवार के दिन लाल रंग का मूंगा खरीदें व उसी दिन चांदी की अंगूठी में जड़वा लें और हनुमान जी के मंदिर जायें। पूजा उपरांत एक माला श्री रामदूताय नमः मंत्र का जप करें और वहीं पर धारण करें, आपको अवश्य लाभ होगा। अगर आपको सिरदर्द की शिकायत ज्यादा रहती है और किसी भी दवाई का असर नहीं हो रहा हो तो क्या करें? सूर्य उदय होने से पहले एक पुराने गुड़ का टुकड़ा लें व किसी चैराहे के समीप दक्षिण की ओर मुख कर दांतों से गुड़ को काटें व वहीं चैराहे पर डाल दें और किसी से बात किये बिना और पीछे मुड़ के देखे बिना घर वापिस आ जायें। ऐसा करने से आपको दवाई का असर होने लगेगा व धीरे-धीरे पुराने से पुराना सिर दर्द भी हो तो भी आपको अवश्य लाभ मिलेगा। अगर आप सफेद दागों से पीड़ित हैं तो क्या करें? कपास के पत्तों को पीस कर रस निकालें। इस रस को सूर्योदय से पहले सफेद दागों पर लगाएं। थोड़ी देर बाद सूख जाने पर पानी से धो लें तथा शुद्ध गाय के घी उस पर लगा लें। प्रयोग के दिनों में खाने में भी केवल गाय के घी का ही इस्तेमाल करें। अन्य तेल-घी का परहेज रखें आपको अवश्य लाभ मिलेगा। अगर कोई जातक पहले कभी लकवे से पीड़ित रहा हो और दोबारा इसका प्रकोप न झेलना पड़े तो क्या करें? - किसी भी रवि पुष्य योग के समय काले घोड़े की नाल की अंगूठी या कड़ा बनवा कर रोगी को पहनाने से उसे जीवन में दोबारा कभी लकवे का प्रकोप नहीं झेलना पड़ेगा। - अगर पथरी संबंधी समस्या का सामना बार-बार करना पड़ता हो तो क्या करें? - शुक्ल पक्ष में शनि पुष्य योग में असली काले घोड़े की नाल का छल्ला बनाकर अपने दाहिने हाथ की कनिष्ठिका ऊंगली में पहनने से पथरी संबंधी समस्या का सामना नहीं करना पड़ेगा। अगर किसी भी तरह का रोग आपको बार-बार परेशान कर रहा है तो क्या करें? पांच गोमती चक्र लें व उसे लाल सूती धागे में पिरोकर जिस पलंग पर आप सोते हांे उसके एक पाये पर बांध दें। धीरे-धीरे आपको रोगों से निवारण मिलेगा। अगर रोगी ज्यादा गंभीर स्थिति में हो और वह आॅक्सीजन या वेंटिलेटर पर हो तो क्या करें? जौ का सवा पाव आटा लें, उसमें साबूत काले तिल मिलाकर रोटी बनायें, उस पर थोड़ा सा तिल का तेल लगायें और उस पर गुड़ रखकर रोटी को रोगी के ऊपर से 7 बार वार कर भैंसे को खिला दें। खिलाने के बाद पीछे मुड़कर न देखें, न ही उसे कोई आवाज दें। सीधे घर वापिस आयें, अवश्य लाभ होगा।

अध्यात्म ज्योतिष और वास्तु

कुतः सर्वमिदं जातं कस्मिश्च लयमेफ्यति। नियंता कश्च सर्वेषां वदस्व पुरूषोत्तम।। यह जगत किससे उत्पन्न हुआ है और किसमें जा कर विलीन हो जाता है? इस संसार का नियंता कौन है? हे पुरुषोत्तम ! यह बताने की कृपा करें। महेश्वरः परोऽव्यक्तः चर्तुव्यूह सनातनः। अननंता प्रमेयश्च नियंता सर्वतोमुखः।। सनातन अनंत अप्रमेय सर्वशक्तिमान महेश्वर सबके नियंता हैं। तत्व चिंतको ने उन्हें ही अव्यक्त कारण, नित्य, सत, असत्य रूप, प्रधान तथा प्रकृति कहा है। वह (परमात्मा) गंध, वर्ण तथा रस से हीन, शब्द और स्पर्श से वंचित, अजर, ध्रुव, अविनाशी, नित्य और अपनी आत्मा में अवस्थित रहते हैं। वही संसार के कारण, महाभूत परब्रह्म, सनातन, सभी भूतों के शरीर, आत्मा में अधिष्ठित, महत्, अनादि, अनंत, अजन्मा, सूक्ष्म, त्रिगुण, प्रभव, अव्यय, और अविज्ञेय ब्रह्म सर्वप्रथम थे। आत्मपुरुष के गुण साम्य की अवस्था में रहने पर जब तक विश्व की रचना नहीं हो जाती है, तब तक प्राकृत प्रलय होता है। यह प्राकृत प्रलय ब्रह्मा की रात्रि कही गयी है और सृष्टि करना उनका दिन कहा गया है। वस्तुतः ब्रह्मा का न दिन होता है, न रात। रात्रि के अंत में जागने पर जगत के अंतर्यामी, आदि, अनादि सर्वभूतमय, अव्यक्त ईश्वर प्रकृति और पुरूष में शीघ्र (हलचल) प्रवेश कर के परम योग से स्पंदन उत्पन्न करता है। वही परमेश्वर क्षोभ उत्पन्न करने वाला है। वही क्षुब्ध होने वाला है। वह संकुचन और विकास (लय और सृष्टि) द्वारा प्रधानत्व प्रकृति में अवस्थित होता है। स्पंदित प्रकृति से पुरातन पुरुष से प्रधान पुरुषात्मक बीज उत्पन्न हुआ। उसी से आत्मा, मति, ब्रह्मा, प्रबुद्धि, ख्याति, ईश्वर, प्रज्ञा, धृति, स्मृति और सवित् की उत्पत्ति हुई। यह सृष्टि मनोमय है। यही प्रथम विकार है। यह तीन प्रकार के हैं- तेजस, भूतादि, तामस। वैकारिक अहंकार से वैकारिक सृष्टि हुई। इंद्रियां तेज का विकार हैं। इनके वैकारिक दस देवता है। ग्यारहवां मन है, जो, अपने गुणों से, उभयात्मक है। भूतादि (तामस अहंकार) से शब्द तन्मात्रा को उत्पन्न किया। उससे आकाश उत्पन्न हुआ, जिसका गुण शब्द माना जाता है। आकाश ने भी विकार को प्राप्त कर के स्पर्श तन्मात्रा की सृष्टि की। उससे आयु उत्पन्न हुआ, जिसका गुण स्पर्श कहा गया है। वायु ने भी विकार अग्नि को उत्पन्न कर के रूप तन्मात्रा की सृष्टि की। उससे अग्नि से जल उत्पन्न हुआ, जो रस (जिह्वा) का आधार है। जल ने भी, विकार को प्राप्त कर के, गंध तन्मात्रा को उत्पन्न किया। उससे गुण संघातमयी पृथ्वी उत्पन्न हुई। उसका गुण गंध है। इस प्रकार पुराणसम्मत उत्पत्ति विषयक तथ्यों से यह ज्ञान प्राप्त होता है कि यह व्यावहारिक जगत उस प्रथम पुरुष के अधीन एक सत्ता है। सतोगुण, रजोगुण तमोगुण से युक्त यह पृथ्वी ईश्वर की माया के अधीन है। पृथ्वी कभी नष्ट नहीं होती है। प्रलय के पश्चात् इसका प्रकटीकरण होता है। यह जगत वास्तव में क्या है? कहां से इसकी उत्पत्ति हुई और कहां इसका लय है? व्यावहारिक जगत में इसका उत्तर है मुक्ति से ही जगत की उत्पत्ति हुई है। मुक्ति में ही विश्राम है और मुक्ति (निवृत्ति) में ही अंत में लय हो जाता है। यह भावना कि हम मुक्त हुए एक आश्चर्यजनक भावना है, जिसके बिना हम एक क्षण भी नहीं चल सकते हैं। इस विचार के अभाव में हमारे सभी कार्य, यहां तक कि हमारा जीवन भी व्यर्थ है। प्रत्येक क्षण प्रकृति यह संदेश सिद्ध कर रही है कि हम दास हैं। पर उसके साथ ही यह भाव उत्पन्न होता है कि हम मुक्त हैं। प्रतिक्षण हम माया से आहत हो कर बंधन में प्रतीत होते हैं। उसी क्षण अंतरस में हलचल होती है। हम मुक्त हैं। यह मुक्ति की भावना ही हमें ईश्वर अंश जीव अविनाशी का बोध कराती है और यह बंधन हमें हमारी शेष इच्छाओं और वासनाओं का। इच्छाएं, वासनाएं जगत प्रपंच के अंतर्गत हंै, जबकि भुक्ति जगत से ऊपर है। जहां किसी प्रकार गति नहीं है, किसी प्रकार का परिणाम नहीं है, यही मोक्ष है। जगत का कोई भी पदार्थ स्वतंत्र नहीं है। प्रत्येक पदार्थ पर उसके बाहर स्थित अन्य कोई भी पदार्थ कार्य कर सकता है; अर्थात् परस्पर सापेक्षता समस्त विश्व का नियम है। कार्य-कारण का सिद्धांत ही पुनर्जन्म की मान्यता को सिद्ध करता है। जो कुछ हम देखते हैं, सुनते हैं और अनुभव करते हैं, संक्षेप में जगत का सभी कुछ एक बार कारण बनता है और फिर कार्य। एक वस्तु अपने आने वाली वस्तु का कारण बनती है। वह स्वयं अपनी पूर्ववर्ती किसी अन्य वस्तु का कार्य भी है। हम अपनी ही वासनाओं के परिवर्तित रूपों को हर जन्म में जीते हैं। गीता का यही संदेश है। जगत का प्रत्येक प्राणी वैकारिक अहंकार के अधीन ही कर्म करता है और कर्म के परिणामों से सुखी और दुःखी अनुभव करता है। ज्योतिष और वास्तु का ज्ञान व्यक्ति को मुक्ति का मार्ग दिखा सकता है। कर्म प्रधान संसार होने के कारण ही योनियां निर्धारित हैं। दिशाओं और ब्रह्मांडीय ऊर्जा, चुंबकीय बल का प्रभाव समस्त अंडज, पिंडज, स्वदेज उद्भिज पर पड़ता है। इसमें मानव योनि ही कर्मशील और विवेकयुक्त है। अन्य सभी भोग योनियां रहती हैं। अथर्व वेद से निकले स्थापत्य वेद के नियमानुसार भवन निर्माण की प्रक्रिया पूर्णतया वैज्ञानिक है। ग्रहीय प्रभाव, उत्तरी और दक्षिणी अंक्षाश के प्राकृतिक अंतर को ध्यान में रख कर, वास्तु का पूर्ण लाभ लिया जा सकता है। आकाश, वायु, अग्नि, जल, पृथ्वी इन पंच महाभूतों, तमोगुण, रजोगुण और सतोगुण, इनके प्रभाव को मानव अपने और प्रकृति के मध्य एक सामंजस्य बना कर ही धर्म, अर्थ, काम और मोक्ष की प्राप्ति कर सकता है। वास्तु शास्त्र को सरलता से समझने के लिए ऋषियों ने इसे वास्तु पुरुष की संज्ञा दी, जो विभिन्न दिशाओं पर राज्य करते हैं, जिनका प्रभाव, सूर्य के उदय और अस्त होने के कारण, जैविक ऊर्जा और प्राणिक उर्जा के सकारात्मक और नकारात्मक प्रभावों को दर्शाते हैं। प्रत्येक दिशा अपना शुभ और अशुभ प्रभाव रखती है। उत्तर-पूर्व दिशा, ऐश्वर्य और सोम (अमृत) प्रदान करती है और शरीर में वाणी, बुद्धि, विद्या, न्रमता, आध्यात्मिक शक्ति का विकास करती है। पूर्व दिशा मन-मस्तिष्क को स्वस्थ रखने, अस्थियों के विकास और वंश वृद्धि में सहायक होने के साथ-साथ दीर्घायु कारक है। जापान में आयु का प्रतिशत विश्व में सबसे अधिक है। उसे उगते हुए सुरज का देश कहा जाता है। अग्नि कोण और दक्षिण, जहां शुक्र और मंगल से युक्त है वहीं, प्रदूषणयुक्त और जीवाणुरहित क्षेत्र होने के कारण, स्वास्थ्य और समृद्धि, जोश एवं उत्साह का संवाहक है। उत्तर-पूर्व दिशाएं जहां सकारात्मक प्रभाव डालती हंै, दक्षिण और दक्षिण-पश्चिम दिशाएं नकारात्मक ऊर्जा की संवाहक है। पूर्व से पश्चिम सौर ऊर्जा का प्रभाव क्षेत्र रहता है। सूर्योदय से तीन घंटे सूर्य जीवन के लिए लाभदायक हैं और वृद्धि देता है। अगले तीन घंटे सूर्य के अग्नि और प्रकाश तत्व बढ़ जाते हैं। ऊर्जा का अधिक विकिरण होने के कारण ये हानिकारक ऊर्जा देते हैं। अगले तीन घंटे सूर्य अपने संपूर्ण प्रभाव से यम दिशा में स्थित होता है। यह सूर्य की विध्वंसक अवस्स्था होती हैं। अगले तीन घंटे सूर्य पश्चिम दिशा में फिर सौम्य रूप में होता है। रात्रि भर सूर्य की किरणें चंद्रमा के ऊपर पड़ कर पृथ्वी पर आती हैं और मानव, वनस्पति और सभी जड़-चेतन पर अपना प्रभाव डालती है। ज्योतिष और वास्तु में, संपूर्ण सौर मंडल में सूर्य ही एक नियामक ग्रह है, जिसकी किरणों के सातों अंश ग्रहोत्पादक हैं। सुषुम्न, हरिकेश, विश्वकर्मा, विश्वश्र्रवा संयद्वंसु, अर्वावसु और सप्तम स्वर है । इनमें सुषुम्न नामक किरण चंद्रमा को पुष्ट करती है। हरिकेश नामक किरण नक्षत्रों को पुष्ट करती है। विश्वकर्मा नामक किरण बुध का पोषण करती है। शुक्र का पोषण विश्वश्रवा नामक किरण करती है। संयद्वंसु नामक किरण मंगल का पोषण करती है। अर्वावसु किरण बृहस्पति को पुष्ट करती है। सप्तम स्वर नामक किरण शनि को पुष्ट करती है। इस प्रकार सूर्य के प्रभाव को प्राप्त कर के तारे-नक्षत्र वृद्धि को प्राप्त होते हैं और प्राणी जगत को प्रभावित करते हैं। 

कारकांश लग्न और आपका जीवन

(1) कारकांश लग्न में सूर्य व राहु की युति हो व शुभ ग्रह की दृष्टि हो तो व्यक्ति विषवैद्य अर्थात चिकित्सक होता है। (हमने इसे एम.सी. डाॅक्टरों में उचित पाया है) (2) कारकांश लग्न में सूर्य व शुक्र दोनों की दृष्टि हो तो व्यक्ति राजा अथवा सरकार का विश्वसनीय होता है। (3) कारकांश लग्न व केतु दोनों पर शुक्र की दृष्टि हो तो व्यक्ति दीक्षा ग्रहण करता है कर्मकाण्डी, यज्ञ, हवन करने वाला होता है। (4) कारकांश लग्न में केतु हो उस पर बुध शनि की दृष्टि हो तो जातक नपुंसक होता है। यदि शुक्र बुध की दृष्टि हो तो जातक दासी पुत्र (नजायज संतान) होता है। (5) कारकांश लग्न में केतु केवल शनि द्वारा दृष्ट हो तो वह व्यक्ति कपटी होता है अर्थात् जैसा वह दिखता है वैसा नहीं होता। (6) यदि कारकांश लग्न से चतुर्थ भाव में चंद्र हो और उस पर शुक्र, मंगल, केतु (किसी भी एक की) दृष्टि हो तो व्यक्ति कुष्ट रोगी होता है। (7) कारकांश लग्न से चतुर्थ में केतु हो तो जातक सूक्ष्म यंत्रों को बनाने वाला (घड़ी साज) मंगल हो तो हथियार रखने वाला शनि हो तो निशानेबाज (धर्नुधारी) राहु हो तो लोहे से समान बनाने वाला होता है। (8) कारकांश लग्न से पंचम भाव में शुुक्र हो तो व्यक्ति कवि, वक्ता या साहित्यकार होता है यदि गुरु हो तो बहुत से विषयों का जानकार विद्वान होता है। यदि शुक्र चंद्र हो तो लेखक, मंगल हो तो तर्कशास्त्री, वकील तथा सूर्य हो तो वेदों का ज्ञाता एवं गायक होता है। (9) कारकांश से सप्तम भाव में गुरु और चंद्र हो तो जातक की पत्नी सुंदर व उसे चाहने वाली होती है, शनि हो तो उम्र में बड़ी रोगी अथवा तपस्विनी होती है। बुध हो तो गायन, वादन कला में निपुण होती है। (10) कारकांश से दशम भाव में बुध हो या बुध की दृष्टि हो तो जातक अपने पेशे में प्रसिद्ध होता है यदि बुध हो और उस पर शुभ ग्रह की दृष्टि हो तो जातक वकील, जज होता है अर्थात विवादों को हल करने वाला होता है। (11) कारकांश लग्न से बाहरवें सूर्य और केतु हो तो जातक शिव भक्त चंद्र हो तो गौरी भक्त, मंगल हो तो कार्तिकेय, बुध और शनि हो तो विष्णु भक्त, गुरु हो तो शिव गौरी (दोनों) शुक्र हो तो लक्ष्मी भक्त या उपासक होता है, राहु हो तो तामसिक भक्ति केतु हो तो गणेश भक्ति वाला होता है। इस प्रकार बहुत से अन्य योग भी दिये गये हैं जिनसे काफी कुछ जानकारी व्यक्ति विशेष के बारे में जानी जा सकती है यहां यह भी ध्यान रखें कि यह सारे फलादेश आज के संदर्भ में समयानुसार परिवर्तन के साथ समझे जा सकते हैं वहीं दृष्टि यहां पर जैमिनी मानी गई है पराशरीय नहीं।

भारतीय ज्योतिष के अंतर्गत होराशास्त्रों में जातक की आजीविका संबंधी कार्यक्षेत्रों और व्यवसायों का विचार भी किया गया है। प्राचीन ग्रंथों में वर्णित ये फल आज के परिप्रेक्ष्य में लागू नहीं होते हैं, क्योंकि पिछले 50-60 वर्षों में कार्य और व्यावसायिक क्षेत्र में व्यापक बदलाव आया है। ज्योतिष विषय के मूल आधार को परिवर्तित नहीं करते हुए, आज के परिप्रेक्ष्यानुसार आजीविका निर्णय करना ज्योतिषियों के लिए बहुत आवश्यक है। यह निर्णय तब ही संभव है, जब आज के कार्यक्षेत्र और व्यवसायों को जानकर ज्योतिष विषय में उनके योगों की व्याख्या की जाए। यह अनुसंधान काफी समय से ज्योतिर्विद करते रहे हैं। कई आधुनिक ज्यातिर्विदों ने आज के परिप्रेक्ष्यानुसार कुंडली में स्थित वर्तमान कार्यक्षेत्र और व्यवसाय के योगों की व्याख्या भी की है। इन अनुसंधानों के अंतर्गत कुंडली में बनने वाले योग जैसे- इंजीनियर, डाॅक्टर, शिक्षक, सी. ए., प्रबंधन क्षेत्र, प्रशासनिक सेवा, मीडिया, थिएटर आदि लाइन में जाने का योग तथा विभिन्न प्रकार के व्यवसायों की व्याख्या की गई है। यहां पर कुंडली में स्थित चार्टर्ड अकाउंटेंट (सी. ए.) द्वारा आजीविका के योगों की व्याख्या की जा रही है। सी. ए. या चार्टर्ड अकाउंटेंट: वर्तमान समय में बहुत प्रसिद्ध कार्यक्षेत्र है। सी. ए. बनने के लिए वाणिज्य विषय में विशेषज्ञता आवश्यक होती है। ज्योतिष में वाणिज्य विषय का कारक बुध को माना जाता है। अतः कंुडली में निम्नलिखित योग होने पर जातक सी. ए. बन सकता है। 1. बली पंचमेश यदि पंचम, चतुर्थ, एकादश, द्वितीय या सप्तम भाव में स्थित हो। 2. गुरु बली होकर पंचम भाव से संबंध बना रहा हो तथा चतुर्थ, पंचम, सप्तम, दशम या द्वितीय भाव में स्थित हो। 3. पंचमेश के अतिरिक्त कुंडली में बुध, गुरु व राहु भी बली होने चाहिए। 4. बली बुध और राहु का परस्पर संबंध बन रहा हो अथवा उनका पंचम और पंचमेश से संबंध बने। 5. लग्नेश बली होकर पंचम भाव में स्थित हो तथा पंचमेश भी पंचम या लग्न से संबंध बनाता हो। 6. पंचमेश का संबंध गुरु, बुध, राहु तथा लग्नेश में से किन्हीं दो ग्रहों से हो तथा पंचमेश बलवान हो। उपर्युक्त योगों में से कोई दो या तीन योग किसी जातक की कुंडली में बन रहे हों, तो जातक सी. ए. बन सकता है।

शनि और करियर

शनि को ब्रह्माण्ड का बैलेंस व्हील माना जाता है अर्थात् शनि सृष्टि के संतुलन चक्र का नियामक है। क्योंकि बैलेंस शनि का मुख्य गुण है इसलिए यह बैलेंस की कारक राशि तुला में अतिप्रसन्न अर्थात् उच्चराशिस्थ होते हैं तथा व्यावसायिक जीवन में अधिक संतुलन, सुरक्षा व स्थिरता अर्थात् जाॅब सैक्यूरिटी आदि देने में समर्थ होते हैं। इसे न्याय का कारक इसलिए माना जाता है क्योंकि यह मनुष्य को उसकी गलतियों और पाप कर्मों के लिए दण्डित करके मानवता की रक्षा करता है और सृष्टि में संतुलन स्थापित करने की प्रक्रिया को स्थिरता पूर्वक गति देता रहता है। यदि जातक की जन्मकुंडली में करियर के उच्चतम शिखर पर पहंुचने के सभी शुभ योग विद्यमान हों तो यह सही है कि जातक अपने करियर में ऊंचा उठेगा लेकिन उन्नति प्राप्त होने का उसका मार्ग सरल होगा या कठिनाइयों से भरा हुआ होगा इसका सूक्ष्म विष्लेषण करने हेतु कुंडली में शनि की स्थिति का अध्ययन करना होगा। यदि कुंडली में शनि की स्थिति उत्तम हो, यह 3, 6, 10 या 11वें भाव में स्थित हो, नीचराषिस्थ व पीड़ित न हो तो आसानी से सफलता मिलेगी। नीचराषिस्थ होने की स्थिति में पूर्ण नीचभंग हो रहा हो तो भी सफलता मिल सकती है। परंतु यदि शनि का नीचभंग नहीं हुआ या शनि शत्रुराषिस्थ व पीड़ित होकर अषुभ भाव में स्थित हुआ तो जातक की सफलता पर प्रष्न चिह्न लग जाएगा तथा विषेष योग्यता संपन्न होने के बावजूद भी उसे जीवन में कठिनाइयों व संघर्ष से जूझना पड़ेगा तथा वह साधारण जीवन जीने के लिए मजबूर हो जाएगा। शनि हमें यथार्थवादी बनाकर हमारी वास्तविक शक्तियों व योग्यताओं से अवगत करवाता है तथा हमें एकान्तप्रिय होकर निरंतर अपने लक्ष्य की ओर अग्रसर करवाता है अर्थात् हमें थ्वबनेमक रखता है। कालपुरुष के अनुसार शनि को व्यवसाय के कारक दशम भाव का स्वामी माना जाता है। हमारे जीवन में स्थिरता व संतुलन का विचार दशम भाव से भी किया जाता है क्योंकि दशम भाव व्यवसाय का घर होता है और जितना हम व्यावसायिक स्तर पर सफल होते हैं उतनी ही श्रेष्ठ सफलता हमें जीवन के दूसरे क्षेत्रों में भी प्राप्त होती है। निष्कर्षतः हम कह सकते हैं संतुलन अर्थात् बैलेंस के कारक शनि की राशि का व्यवसाय के भाव में होना उचित ही है। ग्रहों में शनि को सर्वाधिक महत्वपूर्ण माना जाता है। यदि यह ग्रह बलवान होकर शुभ भाव में स्थित हो तो सफलता जातक के कदम चूमती है। शनि की विशेष उत्तम स्थिति से जातक को बहुत से नौकर-चाकर, उच्च पद्वी, सत्ता व धन सम्पदा आदि सभी कुछ प्राप्त हो जाता है। शनि को सत्ता का कारक इसलिए माना जाता है क्योंकि राजनीति, कूटनीति, मंत्रीपद सभी इसी के इर्द-गिर्द घूमते हैं। यदि कुंडली में शनि लग्न में बैठा हो तो यह कालपुरुष की दशम राशि मकर को दशम दृष्टि से देखकर न केवल व्यावसायिक जीवन में सफलता की गारंटी देता है अपितु अपनी लग्नस्थ स्थिति के कारण जातक को कुशल विचारक व योजनाबद्ध तरीके से कार्य करने की योग्यता भी देता है। बड़े-बड़े राजनीतिज्ञों, व्यापारियों, वैज्ञानिकों, तांत्रिकों व ज्योतिषियों की कुंडली में शनि की इस प्रकार की स्थिति देखी जा सकती है। यदि लग्नस्थ शनि नीच का भी हो तो भी व्यावसायिक जीवन में स्थिरता व अधिकार प्राप्ति का कारक बनता है क्योंकि वह दशम दृष्टि से अपनी राशि को देखता है और कालपुरुष के क्योंकि चर लग्नों के जातकों में शीघ्र निर्णय लेने की क्षमता होती है जबकि शनि का गुण धैर्य व स्थिरितापूर्वक एकाग्रचित्त होकर कार्य सम्पादन करना है। इसलिए इन दोनों गुणों का सम्मिश्रण जातक को श्रेष्ठस्तरीय सफलता का सूत्र व मार्ग स्पष्ट कर देता है। यदि कर्क लग्न के शनि का विचार करें तो यह सामान्य रूप से प्रबल अकारक होता है लेकिन शुभ भाव लग्न में बैठकर यह न केवल अष्टमेश का शुभ फल देकर तथा राजनीति के गलियारों में आपकी कुशलता का विशेष डंका बजेगा। तुला लग्न की पत्री में लग्नस्थ शनि उच्चराशिस्थ होकर चतुर्थेश व पंचमेश होकर आपको शश योग से समन्वित करके परम भाग्यशाली बना देगा तथा जीवन के हर क्षेत्र में आप सफल होंगे। ऐसा भी संभव है कि आप योग, अध्यात्म, वैराग्य, दर्शन, त्याग आदि की कठिनतम रहस्यमयी आध्यात्मिक दुनिया में प्रवेश करके संसार को चमत्कृत कर दें अथवा कोई बड़े वैज्ञानिक बनें। मकर राशि की कुंडली में लग्नेश शनि अपार धन सम्पदा से सम्पन्न बड़ा व्यापारी तो बना ही देगा साथ ही आपकी एकाग्रचित्त होकर निरंतर अपने लक्ष्य की ओर बढ़ने की प्रवृत्ति को भी सुदृढ़ करेगा। अधिकतर ऐसा देखा गया है कि दशम भावस्थ शनि चाहे किसी भी राशि का हो, जातक के जीवन में व्यावसायिक स्थिरता बनी रहती है। यदि ऐसा शनि नीच का हो तो भी जातक का कार्य चलता रहता है। नीच राशि का शनि अक्सर ज्योतिष कार्यों से या अन्य परामर्श संबंधी कार्यों से लाभान्वित कराता है। शनि का दशम भाव से संबंध होने से लोहे का व्यापार तथा तिल, तेल, खनिज पदार्थ, पेट्रोल, शराब आदि के क्रय-विक्रय से, ठेकेदारी से, दण्डाधिकारी, सरपंच अथवा करना करियर में जबर्दस्त नुकसान देता है, नौकरी छूट जाती है, राजनीति में हार तथा व्यापार में हानि उठानी पड़ती है। वहीं कुंडली में शनि की शुभ स्थिति हो तथा अच्छे राजयोग बन रहे हों तो ऐसे में साढ़ेसाती के समय शनि का शुभ भाव व राशि में गोचर करियर में श्रेष्ठतम सफलता प्रदान करता है। जितनी श्रेष्ठ कुंडली होगी उतनी ही ऊंची सफलता सुनिश्चित हो जाएगी। श्रेष्ठतम कुंडली में शुभ साढ़ेसाती सत्ता का सुख देती है। चाहे ग्रह योग व साढ़ेसाती का सूक्ष्म निरीक्षण कितना ही शुभ फलदायी प्रतीत होता हो परंतु जातक को साढ़ेसाती के समय व्यापार में जोखिम नहीं उठाना चाहिए। शनि की साढ़ेसाती आपको अपने व्यवसाय के बारे में सूक्ष्म रूप से यथार्थवादी दृष्टिकोण अपनाने के लिए प्रेरित करती है साथ ही आपको जोखिम उठाने के लिए मना करती है। आपके लिए ऐसी कठिनाइयां भी उत्पन्न करती है जिससे आप अपनी गलतियों से सीखें। यह तकलीफें देकर आपको न केवल एक अच्छा इंसान बना देती है अपितु करियर को भी समुचित दिशा प्रदान करती है। जब कुंडली में शनि की स्थिति श्रेष्ठ हो, धन व लाभ भाव के स्वामी विशेष बली हों तथा गुरु व बुध भी उत्तम स्थिति में हों और गोचरस्थ शनि चंद्रमा से तृतीय, षष्ठ व एकादश भावों में शुभ राशि व शुभ ग्रहों के ऊपर से गोचर कर रहा हो तो वह समय व्यापारिक क्षेत्र में उन्नति के लिए विशेष श्रेष्ठ होता है। इस समय यदि शुभ भावों में स्थित ग्रह की दशा भी चल रही हो तो जोखिम भी उठाए जा सकते हैं क्योंकि सफलता तय है। जिस समय दशम भाव, दशमेश व दशम के कारक पर शनि व गुरु दोनों का गोचरीय प्रभाव आ रहा हो और यह गोचर चंद्रमा से शुभ हो व शुभ राशि में भी हो तो करियर में उन्नति निश्चित रूप से होती है। यदि शनि मेष या वृश्चिक राशि में हो या मंगल से दृष्ट हो तो जातक मशीनरी, फैक्ट्री, धातु, इंजीनियरिंग, इंटीरियर या बिजली संबंधी कार्यों, केंद्रीय सरकार, कृषि विभाग, खान, खनिज या वास्तुकला विभाग में कार्य करता है। यदि इस ग्रह योग पर गुरु व शुक्र का भी प्रभाव हो तो ऐसा जातक न केवल धन लाभ अर्जित करता है अपितु उसे भूमि व संपत्ति का लाभ भी प्राप्त होता है। यदि शनि वृष या तुला राशि में हो अथवा इस पर शुक्र की दृष्टि हो तो कला, प्रबंधन, कम्प्यूटर के व्यवसाय से लाभ उठाता है। यदि गुरु व बुध का शुभ प्रभाव भी इस ग्रह योग पर पड़ता हो तो कानूनविद्, वकील, न्यायाधीश आदि के लिए विशेष श्रेष्ठ होता है। शनि और शुक्र मित्र हैं इसलिए शनि पर शुक्र का यह प्रभाव सौभाग्यवर्धक माना जाता है। शनि से गुरु, शुक्र व बुध की शुभ स्थिति के फलस्वरूप जीवन में आय लाभ नियमित रूप से होता रहता है। ऐसे जातक अपने व्यवसाय में विशेष सुखी होते हैं। उनके पास धन, वाहन और भवन सभी मौजूद रहते हैं। शनि मिथुन या कन्या में हो अथवा बुध से दृष्ट हो तो ऐसे जातक एकाउंटिंग, काॅस्टिंग, अभिनय, बुद्धिजीवी वाले कार्यों, व्यापार, वित्तीय सौदों, विज्ञान व वाकपटुता आदि के अतिरिक्त लेखन कला व कानून संबंधी कार्यों से धन लाभ प्राप्त करते हैं। यदि गुरु व शुक्र का भी प्रभाव रहे तो धन कमाना सरल होने लगता है। ऐसे जातक को मित्रों से भी सहयोग मिलता है। शनि कर्क राशि में हो या चंद्रमा से दृष्ट हो तो ऐसा व्यक्ति कला, ज्योतिष, राजनीति, धर्म, यात्रा, पेय पदार्थ, साहित्य, जल, मदिरा आदि के कार्यों से लाभ उठाते हैं। ऐसे लेगों के करियर में बार-बार परिवर्तन होते हैं। करियर में यात्राएं भी खूब होती हैं लेकिन यह आवश्यक नहीं कि ऐसे लोग कठिन परिश्रम वाले कार्यों में संलग्न होना चाहें। ऐसे लोग अधिकतर शांत व नरम स्वभाव के होते हैं। शनि सिंह राशि में हो अथवा सूर्य से दृष्ट हो तो ऐसे जातक को सरकारी नौकरी या सत्ताधारी लेागों से लाभ मिलता है। इसका यह भी संकेत निकाल सकते हैं कि पिता पुत्र का व्यापार या साझेदारी आदि में संबंध है। इसके कारण सरकारी नौकरी व राजनीति से लाभ मिलता है। शनि सूर्य की शत्रुता के चलते कुछ संघर्ष के पश्चात् सफलता मिलती है। इसलिए यदि गुरु, शुक्र व बुध आदि ग्रहों का शनि पर प्रभाव न हो तो व्यावसायिक जीवन में संघर्ष का सामना करना पड़ता है। लेकिन यदि गुरु, शुक्र, बुध व बलवान चंद्रमा का प्रभाव आ जाए तो जातक को विशेष प्रसिद्धि की प्राप्ति होती है। यदि शनि धनु या मीन राशि म हो या गुरु से दृष्ट हो तो जातक को कानून, वन विभाग, लकड़ी या धार्मिक संस्थाओं आदि में विशेष सफलता मिलती है। यह ग्रह योग जातक को मनोविज्ञान, गुप्त ज्ञान (पराविद्या), प्रशासनिक कार्य, प्रबंधन कार्य, शिक्षक, अन्वेषक, वैज्ञानिक, ज्योतिषी, मार्गदर्शक, वकील, इतिहासकार, चिकित्सक, धर्मोपदेशक आदि के रूप में प्रतिष्ठित कराता है। ऐसे जातक में वाद-विवाद करने का विशेष चातुर्य होता है व व्यक्तित्व विशेष आकर्षक होता है। इनके बहुत से मित्र होते हैं तथा व्यावसायिक जीवन में निश्चित रूप से प्रतिष्ठा की प्राप्ति होती है। ऐसा ग्रह योग स्वतंत्र व्यवसाय या रोजगार की प्राप्ति करवाता है। शनि मकर या कुंभ राशि में हो तो जातक को सेवा, यात्रा, जन आंदोलन, विक्रय कार्य अथवा लायजनिंग संबंधी कार्यों से लाभ होता है। शनि विदेशी भाषा का कारक है इसलिए विद्या व भाषा पर अधिकार देने वाले ग्रहों जैसे शुक्र, गुरु, बुध व केतु से इसका शुभ संबंध और स्थिति जातक को अंग्रेजी या अन्य विदेशी भाषाओं का विद्वान बनाती है। शनि के ऊपर, गुरु, बुध, केतु इन सभी का प्रभाव पड़े तो मशहूर वकील बने। शनि पर केवल राहु का प्रभाव हो तो जातक छोटी नौकरी से गुजर बसर करता है परंतु यदि राहु के साथ-साथ गुरु, शुक्र का भी प्रभाव हो तो प्रारंभ में नौकरी करने के पश्चात् जातक धीरे-धीरे अपने आप को स्वतंत्र व्यवसाय में भी स्थापित कर लेता है।

जन्म दशा से जुड़ा पंचम, नवम व द्वादश भावों का संबंध

हिंदू ज्योतिष कर्म तथा पुनर्जन्म के सिद्धांत पर आधारित है। यह तथ्य प्रायः सभी ज्योतिषी तथा ज्ञानीजन अच्छी तरह से जानते हैं। मनुष्य जन्म लेते ही पूर्व जन्म के परिणामों को भोगने लगता है। जैसे फल फूल बिना किसी प्रेरणा के अपने आप बढ़ते हैं उसी तरह पूर्वजन्म के हमारे कर्मफल हमें मिलते रहते हैं। हर मनुष्य का जीवन पूर्वजन्म के कर्मों के भोग की कहानी है, इनसे कोई भी बच नहीं सकता। जन्म लेते ही हमारे कर्म हमें उसी तरह से ढूंढने लगते हैं, जैसे बछड़ा झुंड में अपनी मां को ढूढ़ निकालता है। पिछले कर्म किस तरह से हमारी जन्मकालीन दशाओं से जुड़ जाते हैं, यह किसी भी व्यक्ति की कुंडली में आसानी से देखा जा सकता है। कुंडली के प्रथम, पंचम और नवम भाव हमारे पूर्वजन्म, वर्तमान तथा भविष्य के सूचक हैं। इसलिए जन्म के समय हमें मिलने वाली महादशा/ अंतर्दशा/ प्रत्यंतर्दशा का संबंध इन तीन भावों में से किसी एक या दो के साथ अवश्य जुड़ा होता है। यह भावों का संबंध जन्म दशा के किसी भी रूप से होता है - चाहे वह महादशा हो या अंतर्दशा हो अथवा प्रत्यंतर्दशा। दशा तथा भावों के संबंध के इस रहस्य को जानने की कोशिश करते हैं पंचम भाव से। पंचम भाव, पूर्व जन्म को दर्शाता है। यही भाव हमारे धर्म, विद्या, बुद्धि तथा ब्रह्म ज्ञान का भी है। नवम भाव, पंचम से पंचम है अतः यह भी पूर्व जन्म का धर्म स्थान और इस जन्म में हमारा भाग्य स्थान है। इस तरह से पिछले जन्म का धर्म तथा इस जन्म का भाग्य दोनों गहरे रूप से नवम भाव से जुड़ जाते हैं। यही भाव हमें आत्मा के विकास तथा अगले जन्म की तैयारी को भी दर्शाता है। जिस कुंडली में लग्न, पंचम तथा नवम भाव अच्छे अर्थात मजबूत होते हैं वह अच्छी होती है क्योंकि भगवान श्री कृष्ण के अनुसार ”धर्म की सदा विजय होती है“। द्वादश भाव हमारी कुंडली का व्यय भाव है। अतः यह लग्न का भी व्यय है। यही मोक्ष स्थान है। यही भाव पंचम से अष्टम होने के कारण पूर्वजन्म का मृत्यु भाव भी है। मरणोपरांत गति का विचार भी फलदीपिका के अनुसार इसी भाव से किया जाता है। दशाओं के रूप में कालचक्र निर्बाध गति से चलता रहता है। ”पद्मपुराण“ के अनुसार ”जो भी कर्म मानव ने अपने पिछले जन्मों में किए होते हैं उसका परिणाम उसे भोगना ही पड़ेगा“। कोई भी ग्रह कभी खराब नहीं होता, ये हमारे पूर्व जन्म के बुरे कर्म होते हैं जिनका दंड हमें उस ग्रह की स्थिति, युति या दशा के अनुसार मिलता है। इसलिए हमारे सभी धर्मों ने जन्म मरण के जंजाल से मुक्ति की कामना की है। जन्म के समय पंचम, नवम और द्वादश भावों की दशाओं का मिलना निश्चित होता है।
